Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Another item found on Ebay. Is it a quality item? Would you recommend? I like a shifter with some weight to it, is it all aluminum? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...link:middle:us

POST 2Original post

Why not go with a B&M or the Porsche factory ones, Even the Schenell would be better than that one. At least you would know what to expect. I dont trust those ebay knockoffs.

POST 3Original post

In old 911s there were no internal gates in the transmission and a high quality, perfectly adjusted gated shifter made a huge difference in feel and security from a misshift. In the 996, adjusting the shifter only changes the position of the lever. The gates are all internal and the shifter end of the cables are locked in position. You get to choose whether you want shorter throws and the added notchiness that comes with it, but that's about it. I put in the 997 shifter as the bushings were pretty well worn on my stock one, but beyond that, what's the point (other than wrapping your plastic bushings in anodized aluminum)? Probably get more shift feel improvement by changing the gear oil.

POST 5Original post

dont put those knock offs in... the bushings are cheap crap that will eventually wear and create lots of play on the shifter.

POST 6Original post

+1 for the 997 I love mine - OEM take off was really cheap if you can find one and had the whole housing too!! Take your time, buy good stuff or OEM

POST 7Original post

Ed, do you think the 997 shifter will fit in my Honda? While it may not help with the shifting (since the Honda has an automatic transmission) the 997 shifter would look better!

POST 8Original post

I put one of those knock off shifters in my old Boxster. No complaints, I think it was around $70.00

POST 9Original post

I'd say it would reduce your throw by 100%....when it snaps off in your hand.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

thanks for telling me about the Schnell, i may go with them. they have a steel shaft. paragon has them for $189.00 and on vertex $149
