I have the computer so I don't know if it is tied into this, however changing between mph/kph can be done on my car by turning the clock button (clockwise I think) and holding it for a few seconds.

I have purchased a used 996 (1999) but since I am non-US and not too used to the F-degrees I would like to change the temperature indicators to C-degrees.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have purchased a used 996 (1999) but since I am non-US and not too used to the F-degrees I would like to change the temperature indicators to C-degrees. This concerns both the in-gauge outside temperature and for the A/C. Does anybody know how....my authorised porsche service center did not know a simple fix. Anything available like changing miles/h-to-km/h? Thanks for your help, Hans in Boston

POST 2Original post

According to the 1999 Technical Introduction manual "The display cannot be switched between RoW and USA units." This is pertaining the the guage displays. On the AC control head though it can be changed by pressing the Recirculating air and + button simultaneously.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for a super quick reply. I'm eager to test the change for the A/C....but yet a bit discouraged by the in-gauge issue. Perhaps there is a work around that an authorized service place could do (I do not care if it says F or C in the dash, as long as it is C). Metric makes more sense to me. Thanks again for the A/C fix! Best regards, Hans in Boston

POST 4Original post

I think from my old high school days you take say 70 F subtract 32 and multiply the remainder by (5/9). That should give you about 20 C.

POST 5Original post

I have a tough time with "the math" so rather then do arithmatic (all that I can handle) I use at little chart that translates. -40 is the only temp where you don't have to figure things out.

POST 6Original post

I have the computer so I don't know if it is tied into this, however changing between mph/kph can be done on my car by turning the clock button (clockwise I think) and holding it for a few seconds.

POST 7Original post

We have a California owner who bought a used 1997 Canada Boxster which displayed C on the OBC. Several attempts were made with the PST2 to change C over to F on the OBC display without any luck. Except for the 2 extra gauges a 1999 996 instrument cluster is the same as a 1997 Boxster. If you compare the part numbers for a Canadian cluster they are different than a US cluster. A UK cluster is a hybrid. The analog speedometer is in miles but the OBC temp display is in C. Changing the digital speedometer display to kph does not change the OBC display.

POST 8 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thank you everyone for your responses. I think the best? for me is to change the entire instrument cluster. Does anyone know if part 996 641 115 03 70C will fit a 996(C2) from 1999? It is Canadian dials in black...consequently in km/h and also C-degrees. But it might be only for C4 between years 01-03... Thanks again, Hans in Boston

POST 9Original post

It is a Canadian/metric cluster for a pre 2001 C4. C4 cluster has problems when in a C2 or Boxster due to the fuel gauge since there is a different fuel tank, and there is no fix I know of.
