Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

A lot of the aftermarket kits are nothing more than H7 bulbs filled with Xenon gas.

FYI, the installation of the factory Xenon is impossible because there's is no self leveling device, and they will DEFINITELY cause a conflict your in-dash computer systems (A message of "CHECK YOUR LOW BEAM" will flash every time you turned on your headlights) The factory Xenon is $1200 ~ $2000.

Finally, the Litronic retrofit kit comes with a control unit that rotates the Xenon low-beams when you hit the high-beams so that the Xenons actually help fill the gap left by the halogen high-beams.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

If you do the litronic retrofit, will you get an error code based on the inability to auto level? I'm thinking about buying the retrofit kit, but another person selling just xenon bulbs said his might be better.
This is a quote from his listing... he's a good guy from the BMW forum Jimmy540i, but I just don't know if this is true or not.
THEY ARE THE CLOSEST THING TO THE FACTORY XENON and look even better; the light texture is BRIGHT, BEAUTIFUL & LUXURIOUS! Ask your Porsche dealer and they will tell you it is not doable even if you pay the high price. SO ACT NOW! These Xenons will be the BEST $ you've ever spent on your PORSCHE!!
Thanks
First off, I assume you are referring to 99-01 non-Turbo 996's since you've posted in the 996 forum and mentioned the retrofit kit. I don't know if there's a Porsche retrofit kit for the Turbo or 02-04 996's with the "facelift" headlights (to be honest, I have never looked in to it). Anyway, with all due respect to Jimmy540i...what he's telling you is just plain wrong.
There is no product out there that will provide auto-leveling -- not even the Porsche Litronic retrofit kit. That feature is only available from the factory.
The Porsche Litronic retrofit kit is a great upgrade and is the next best thing to factory Litronics. With the Litronic retrofit kit, the Xenon bulbs and ballasts are all in the same assembly. I don't think there is a cleaner product out there.
The Litronic retrofit kit has real Xenon bulbs.
A lot of the aftermarket kits are nothing more than H7 bulbs filled with Xenon gas. Plus, the Porsche Litronic retrofit kit is designed for Xenon bulbs and have projector style lenses.
I don't know all the details of the bulbs Jimmy is selling but if they are indeed Xenon bulbs then he must also sell you the ballasts which you would somehow have to find room for and screw on to the trunk. I also doubt he will provide you a new headlight assembly with lenses specifically designed for Xenon bulbs to focus the beam so you get that sharp Xenon "cut-off" line.
Finally, the Litronic retrofit kit comes with a control unit that rotates the Xenon low-beams when you hit the high-beams so that the Xenons actually help fill the gap left by the halogen high-beams. But here's the thing: you don't even need to install the control unit -- you can simply pop out your existing halogen headlamp assemblies and pop in the Litronic assemblies and you're in business (you just won't get the high-beam rotation). As far as your on-board computer knows you still have the old halogen headlights. The Litronic retrofit kit will not interfere with the computer like Jimmy says. I mean, think about it, why would Porsche come out with a kit that will conflict with the computer? If you're interested, call Brandywine or Carnewal. I got the kit from Brandywine for $1,100 over a year ago. You should be able to get it for less now.

Thanks! I already found a DIY for wiring up the control units. I just wanted to make sure that there was no problem with the computer. You've calmed my fears.
