One is to manually select footwell and windshield as outlets and the other is to simply set the system to max hot and then use the manual blower speed control to "set" your comfort level.

Suggestion

During the summer you can enhance your fuel economy and safety (potentially), by running the system in max cool (wherein no airflow goes through the reheat cycle) and use the blower speed in the same way to set your comfort level.

It appears to me that VW uses the same automatic climate control system but as a result of cutomer complaintshas stepped up to the plate and is offering a firmware fix.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It is starting to get a little cold again in the NE ! The ACC in my 01 tt. When I first start it in the morning the fan is 'on' and it blows cold air out of the front vents - NOT GOOD. Even when the car warms up I am still getting some air out of the front vents - warm. This can not be right. Am I correct in thinking that this is not normal? Also -- the fog lights make no real difference in my car. I can tell they are on, but that is all. Is this just because the discharge lights are just so good that they overpower the fog lights. I am making an appointment next week to take her in for a few things. My crazy wipers, fixed twice, still "jurk" all over the place.

POST 2Original post

The Porsche (bosch?) climate is a bit strange. During cabin warmup the majority of the airflow will beto the footwell and with a definite portion to the windshield. Once the cabin temperature appraoches the temperature setpoint the system will switch such that all outlets are used. There are two ways to avoid this discomforting effect. One is to manually select footwell and windshield as outlets and the other is to simply set the system to max hot and then use the manual blower speed control to "set" your comfort level. I have added a switch (opens the A/C clutch circuit) inside the center console so the A/C will not run at all during the cool and/or colder months. During the summer you can enhance your fuel economy and safety (potentially), by running the system in max cool (wherein no airflow goes through the reheat cycle) and use the blower speed in the same way to set your comfort level. The safety issue relates to humidity and the above flaw in the system. Just as in the sunmer time once the cabin is cooled to or near your temperature setpoint the system will then open all outlets to airflow and that will allow the interior of the windshield to be cooled. In some climatic circumsatnces the exterior of the windshield can then decline below dewpoint and begin to fog over. You might be surprised at how suddenly this can happen and at night it can be realoly hard to quickly discern why much of your forward vision is lost. Porsche is well aware of the problem but refuses to take action. You can probably learn more by searching for "windshield condensation" and "Touareg". It appears to me that VW uses the same automatic climate control system but as a result of cutomer complaintshas stepped up to the plate and is offering a firmware fix.

POST 3Original post

Fog lights are really intended to be used alone and without headlights. They really are there to allow you to continue to have forward motion in a relative heavy fog. Their bean spread is intenstionally low and wide to avoid backscatter from the many water dropletts suspended in the air. Their amber color really does enhance your vision in this circimsatnce. I have no idea why many manufacturers now have designs that require the headlamps be on befor ethe foglamps can be used. I have had to rewire every Lexus I have owned such that I can use the fog lamps within them being over-shadowed(??) by the BRIGHT low beams.
