Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 4+ car Tandem garage that I have been remodeling just so my Targa is happy when sleeping . I had high quality custom all wood cabinets made and can't decide on how to finish them. Should I go Grey like the lower walls, White or just clear over them like they are now. I am worried that if I clear them it will look too much like a kitchen and not like a shop. I have looked on Gauragejournal but most of them are pre-builts. What would you do????? Input appreciated.

POST 2Original post

look over on 6speed online and they have a garage section over there... it shows some of the hottest garage these guys have......... http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/f...splay.php?f=61

POST 3Original post

I think I would do a light stain to bring out their natural color, though a cherry stain might go pretty well also. I love wood, always like to bring out the grain when I can. I think I stole one of your pictures for my sig. Mines an 03 Targa that looks just like yours so you know i mean it when I say: Sweet ride!

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Porsche_Smile thanks this will be fun to look over 03Targa, We must have stolen these pictures from the same shoot. I have been thinking about a stain too. Maybe something a little darker like you say to bring out the grain (birch). We should check vin numbers and see how far apart our cars were built because mine is also an 03. Is yours Meridian Metalic?

POST 5Original post

Wow, that's a pretty big garage you've got but also weird looking layout. I would do a ''colonial'' stain. I looks like a shade of caramel. I would not paint white or any light color since every light dirty finger prints will show and might even stain the cabinets. Good luck!!

POST 6Original post

I would not paint the wood cabinets, a light stain or clear coat, but no paint - it will cheapen the nice woodwork. I would also epoxy the floor, proper prep is key, and do not use the rustoleum (sp?) it is junk. Looks great so far, good luck.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks, I agree, paint will hide the good wood work. I am going to experiment with some stains. I Appreciate the help!. The floor will be the next hurdle.

POST 8Original post

I actually started with just stain for the same reason, I didn't want to hide the wood. But after a year, I'm going to paint them black. The natural look is hard to keep clean if your always working in the garage like I do, and with a black/silver tool box, and a new black/silver fridge and floor paint with grey walls I think the black will look better and more like a garage. I had my brother in law comment that the wood does look like the kitchen. .02

POST 9Original post

I'm jealous of your garage, but second the "looks like a kitchen" sentiment.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, my cabinet maker reminded me that the wood is paint grade Birch. It would not stain evenly so... Today I primed it white. Now it looks like a white kitchen I am too damn tired to take a picture but will do it Sunday. I think Black or Grey is what it will end up.

POST 11Original post

Itorque, mine is arctic silver. I detailed it today so I'll take some pics tommorrow.

POST 12Original post

I would paint it a high gloss white or grey. The light colors will reflect the light and make the garage seem larger and brighter. The high gloss will also look somewhat industrial and easy to keep clean. You could also have some thin stainless steel panels made to face the cabnet doors with. This would have a great look, reflective qualities and very easy to clean.

POST 15Original post

How bout high gloss red? Adds a sporty look, goes with the red stripe on the wall. PS--Your garage is bigger than my house!

POST 16Original post

What ever color you choose, you definately want to go with high gloss, because it will be the easiest to clean, because it is the "smoothest" paint surface available. http://www.devoepaint.com/NUSDPP/finishes/sheens.jsp

POST 17 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks everyone for their input. Here is what I did this weekend. I think I will end up with Grey (high gloss) lowers and white (high Gloss) uppers. If the white uppers look weird after finishing I can always go back to grey. I may also look into the stainless fronts as I have a friend that could stamp them for me.

POST 18Original post

It looks great! Now can you come on over to my garage and help with the remodel?

POST 19Original post

Fricken Awesome...now get to work on the floor. I recomend a zebra pattern.

POST 20Original post

VCT tiles for the floors....also try this site for garage ides and a forum. http://www.garagejournal.com

POST 21Original post

Zebra pattern eh? I'd like to see an example of that! Also - can anyone suggest the best "paint" or "epoxy" for the floor? I etched my garage floor a few years ago and put on Behr Concrete 1-part Epoxy. It holds up for 2 years - winter slush always eats it away eventually. I'd like a better coating for the floor - so if you know one, please post.
