I was checking tirerack and it shows that the 285/35 is .5" bigger in diameter than the 265/35.

The 35 aspect ratio is outside the +/- 3% diameter of the original OEM tire that most tire sites recommend not to exceed.

I know the 285/35 are not the recommended size but I would think that they would be nicer on rough roads????

Also your car will have more understeer....I hated the way my car handled with the 285 on the rear....I have a C4 so it may be a bit different with a C2....now I have 19's with 295's and its NICE....but my fronts are also different.....so go figure....just realize you will be changing your handling as well when going from 265 to 285 in the rear...

I am still debating to change the tiresize up or not.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The OEM size for '02 - '04 is 285/30/18. I am cureently running 295/30/18. The 35 aspect ratio is outside the +/- 3% diameter of the original OEM tire that most tire sites recommend not to exceed. A 285/30/18 would be OK though.
While the 285/35/18 will fit, it is not recommended. Check out the link below and play some "what if" sized and see the results.

Thanks guys! I was checking tirerack and it shows that the 285/35 is .5" bigger in diameter than the 265/35.
gota911, that link you provided is great! I am still debating to change the tiresize up or not. Only reason I am stuck with 285/35/18 is because I have a set of brand new Perelli Pzero tires.
I fall into the same camp. I know the 285/35 are not the recommended size but I would think that they would be nicer on rough roads???? I too have been looking at going with a 225/40 front and a 285/35 in the rear. I know it will work but do I want it to work is the question.
vwrado - your initial post said you had 265/
40
/18, not 265/35/18. While the 285/35/18 will fit and function properly, just be aware that your speedometer will be a little "off" from the actual speed you are traveling. You can get the exact variance from the tire calculator I listed earlier.
Opps, that was a typo. I have the stock size of 265/35/18.
Using that calculator, it shows that I will be 2-3mph off. I am still deciding to do this size or not.

I believe most Porsche speedos read 2-3 mph over the actual speed anyway, so going to a slightly larger diameter tire may allow your speedo to display the actual speed.
