Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

17 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am in the market for a 996 and have found this one. Does it look like a factory Aero kit. A real S? How can I tell? Thanks for your help!

POST 2Original post

You can't really tell if it's factory just by a photo. There are a number of fibreglass kits out there which mimic the factory look for a lower price. It's possible, but this photo isn't going to be telling enough. However, the badging is wrong on the trunk lid.

POST 3Original post

the S is not factory since there were no 996 Carrera S ever produced only 996 Carrera 4 S (my car) which have the Turbo widebody and the distinctive rear reflector.

POST 4Original post

Check the option codes listed on a label under the hood. I do not know what the codes are for those options, but there is a code decoder some where on this site.

POST 5Original post

Is your question about whether the components are made by Porsche or whether the car came spec'd like this from the factory?

POST 7Original post

If it was a real "S", there would be red between the 2 taillights that goes across the decklid. At least on the 4s, thats the case. I followed one to work today.

POST 8Original post

Check the option code sticker. Here's the decoder for the 996: http://www.renntech.org/forums/index...s&code=carrera

POST 9Original post

easiest way is to get the vin and call a P dealer or PCNA and ask them. some dealers will tell you to get lost but the good ones will help you out....

POST 11Original post

Look factory? Absolutely. Is it? My guess is that it is aftermarket. I can't imagine somebody that badges a car is somebody that it is going to pay for the full price of a factory aerokit over the low price fiberglass stuff. FYI....as others have stated, there is ABSOLUTELY no such thing as a "S" model narrow body car. The only "S" model you could get was the C4S and the TurboS in the 996 line (both were wide-bodies).

POST 13Original post

Look for factory code XAA, thats the aero kit code straight from PORSCHE. It looks real from the photo but WAY to hard to tell. Ditto on the badging, not sure why a factory-spec aero would have the S.

POST 15Original post

Didn't the factory OEM Areo kit include the fins on the lower rear bumper?

POST 17Original post

Looks Porsche authentic to me, other than the badge. Porsch part number is inside the lid.
