Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Years ago I had a similar issue, on car balancing cured the problem.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have read the variety of posts on similar issues (although speeds vary). I experience a very unnerving vibration through the steering wheel at speeds above 60. Car still under warranty. I have 18 inch rims and OEM Pzero assimetricos. They have been changed, re/balanced multiple times (at my expense at the dealer). I have had three alignments (also my $$). Changed a front and back rim (me$$ again). Changed part of a front strut. The vibration is still here. This is starting to feel like an endemic structural issue to me perhaps worthy of a recall given how many people I have seen desribing something similar. Has anyone been able to really tackle this issue through other means than perpetual alignments and balancings? Has anyone been able to get their dealer/Porsche North America to take this seriously and do what is necessary for the vehicle to drive and hanlde like a $90K Porsche is supposed to? Please help. Thank you.

POST 3Original post

I had this same problem on my first 996. I bought the car with a few K miles on it. Days after I drove it home I found out the car had been bottomed out. Dealer did $1,500 worth of repairs including a couple of balances and alignments. Car never drove properly (IMO). Vibration was still bad and drove me crazy. Ended up trading the car a month later. I've been through 2 since then, and both have NO vibration. But, I would check the tires...could be that they have bad wear patterns.

POST 4Original post

Could be a bad tire. Have you had the tires spin balanced ON THE CAR ? Years ago I had a similar issue, on car balancing cured the problem. Good luck

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the input. I bought the car second hand with 15K miles. I have not had the tires balanced on the car itself. By the way, what does "bottomed out" mean?
