I got a little carried away and replaced all my speakers, big amp and added two subs that Rod @ Car Audio Innovations custom makes to match the leather interior

if you have an 02 or older, you can get the becker adapter and use the aux in for the cleanest install.

I just purchased a '99 C2 this weekend (loving it!) but the radio leaves a lot to be desired (CDR-210). I'd like to get a Sirius Sat. system installed. Does anyone have any recommendations on a good system? Has anyone tried any of the portable solutions with the FM modulation?
Also, until I get a new system, are there any tricks to getting better FM reception? I can't keep many of the local FM stations tuned at all (they work great in my BMW 330).
Finally, off-topic, but has anyone tried these cupholders? Looks like they might work pretty well.

No help on the Sirius radion though have sympathy pains. Wishing that I didn't have the MOST system so could more easily integrate a satellite radio solution into my car.
re: ultimate cupholders. Had one in my NSX and liked it a lot. It was stable, sat low & out of the way but within easy reach. As for the Porsche, however, I'm not sure how it comfortable/accessible the placement options would be.
I installed the Clarion DXZ845 head unit (

) in an '02 cab. The surround is a flat black that works well with the Porsche interior, and the display can be set to amber mode, so cosmetically it looks like it belongs in the car.
I find the audio fine, but the controls are more confusing than most other radios I've used--certainly worse than the Beckers than come in Porsches. The antenna is mounted at the front-center of the dash, which is unobtrusive. Reception is fine except under bridges or occasionally beneath large trees.
I have XM in two other cars, and I prefer their programming to Sirius. I especially dislike Sirius' tendency to preempt the programming that's supposed to be on dedicated stations (e.g., my favorite talks stations) in order to broadcast sports events.
I looked at a lot of options and decided this Clarion unit would do the best job of harmonizing with the Porsche interior. If cosmetics were less important, I probably would go with one of the Alpine XM units.
The cupholders work well - not great. But there are not many options, so I have a set of these in my 99. Better for a bottle of Pepsi than a full coffee when rounding a bend at .83g...
In my Porsche I have Sirius through a Alpine IVA D300. In my Lexus I have a Sirius portable through FM modulation. The Lexus unit requires FM channel adjustment sometimes (thunderstorms, etc), but works well. Its nice to be able to quickly pull the unit out and set it up in a portable boombox for the garage, or whatever.
The Alpine unit in my Porsche is just perfect.
Hey Larry in San Diego - does your '02 have MOST? If so, was the Clarion unit compatible with it? I'm in the same boat as boswell - and I don't like the FM modulator systems. I just want a simple head unit swap so I can have Sirius on the way to the track!!
get the xm over the little doggy radio. i hate thier logo by the way. i've had xm for years now. the inline modulators work okay. if you have an 02 or older, you can get the becker adapter and use the aux in for the cleanest install. i use the aux in on the becker for my ipod. the xm is in my work car.
In response to "every day," the '02 does not have MOST. That misguided feature began with the '03s.

I went with a Clarion with a flip up touch screen and love it. The Sirius Sat unit and the 6 disk changer sit in the trunk with no problem. Installation is quite simple for the average DIY. what do you think of Rod's subs? I had seen those online, but was kind of hesitant? are you a "car stereo" guy and what kind of music do you listen to? I'm really picky about subs and am having a hard time finding a bass solution for my cab. can you post some pics of your setup?
my pictures would be just like the ones you see on Rod's site. All of the speakers are hidden except for the subs. I listen to everything but country and the subs are more than enough for the above average listener. I like the subs more and more as I fine tune the equipment to my taste. In closing, unless you build something into the back seats this is the best thing going for a good price. My advice would be to not skimp on anything. I installed all of my equipment and still spent over 5K.
