He had no knowledge but got the seller on the phone who admitted that he'd had a "little bit of a ding", and he replaced the front bumper.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I feel obligated to post this as I'm sure there are others here looking for a car. Not sure how OK it is to post this - but if anyone is fishing around to buy a cab right now there is one in Denver that I'd like to share my thoughts on. Note that I am NOT qualified to pre-purchase inspections so consider this information an amateurs analysis of a car. If my gut on this is wrong then I hope that you more knowledgeable folk will put me straight. So. There is a 1999 Actic silver cab for sale in Denver right now for $35,900 at a dealer. Not a porsche dealer. That should be enough to make it clear which car it is if you are looking. There's a bit of a whine from the rear end ( think it's a wheel bearing ) but apart from that it drives GREAT. But.. I don't like the front end. I think there is accident repair. When I started to think this I confronted the dealer who is selling it on consignment. He had no knowledge but got the seller on the phone who admitted that he'd had a "little bit of a ding", and he replaced the front bumper. I said "So they resprayed the hood".. and he said "Yeah - had to color match etc.." Then I had a REALLY good look: Here is what I found - you decide. - under the lip of the front fenders there is none of the bubbly undercoat that I beileve should come right up to the lip the same way it does on the rear fenders. - looking behind the front wheels, I see that the underseal comes to halfway up the facing panel ( the outer "trunk" skin. ) Above that, including the top suspention mount, the sheetmetal has no undercoat / underseal at all - just paint. There is a weld mark on this panel which neatly disects the area which has underseal and which doesn't. I don't even know if a WELD here is normal. - the stickers under the hood are frayed around the edges and the paper one is looking very much the worse for wear ( as if they have been removed from one hood and placed on another for example ) - the log book is new. There is no sticker in it that should match the one under the hood - PURE conjecture here - but I didn't like the look of the chasis about level with the front door pillar.. the underseal looked disturbed - but I'd already decided to walk at this point, so I really have no strong opinion on this. So there you have it. I'm not crazy right - fairly significant repair? From a blue book price this car looks like a really good deal, but I would not be happy if I paid for it unseen and had it shipped to me.. I'd be really PISSED!!! Not sure that it will be at that dealer for long - he was not happy because he had of course already asked "any accidents" and had assurances that there had not. The other thing that disturbs me is that carfax shows nothing about any repairs. Anyone know what it takes for carfax to register something? If a vehicle can have work done at an independent body shop under the radar then that sucks. So.. Still searching! Best Keith

POST 2Original post

Are you looking to part this car out? If so, buy it. If you are looking for a bargain Porsche, keep looking. Sounds from your writeup like a wrecked/repaired vehicle.

Ask Bob about buying a Porsche from a Ford dealer for a CAB in the 30's!!!

POST 4Original post

Not sure if the front fenders had the rough bubbly undercoating like the rears
