Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Think I'll be selling my 996 in a few weeks. Even after doing IMS, RMS, new clutch, flywheel, ROW M030 suspension, and gundo hack... I still don't love driving the car. It still doesn't put a smile on my face the way other cars have. The roads are in very bad shape here, there is no track, the autocross isn't that enjoyable... Originally my plan was to slowly set-up the car the way I'd like it (closer to a GT3 than a C2) and have a track car/ weekend driver when I went back to the mainland in 5 years. Buying a house has slowed down what I had planned for the car, it seems most my of $ goes towards house things, and our renovation projects. The real reason, is that I miss riding motorcycles. I used to ride super sports, loved wearing full leathers and dragging knee, but held off getting a bike here because Oahu has almost no nice windy back roads or a track, and crappy roads. An idea of getting an Enduro/ super Moto has turned into something I'm craving. I can have fun riding to work, as well as take the bike intro the many trails here, or beaches to have fun. Last time I owns bikes, my cars usually just sit in the garage neglected unless the weather is really crappy. Just doesn't make sense to keep my car right now. On a positive note, someone in Hawaii will be getting a very well sorted 996. While I downsize to an island beater, and a hooligan bike.

POST 2Original post

Sounds like it's time for you to move on. Be safe on the bikes.

POST 3Original post

I have never found any fun driving in Hawaii. Just not a place for a serious, fast car.

POST 4Original post

Go for broke, buy a Moke! http://www.classiccar.com/mini/moke/mini-moke_16425/

POST 6Original post

always enjoyed H3 to KBay...my escape from the hustle and bustle of downtown. Best of luck. P.S. Also a motorcycle rider here (09 Busa and 02 Road King)

POST 8Original post

Best of luck. If you're single, might I recommend a used CRX if you really cherish driving enjoyment and fun. It will get close to 30mpg even if you drove it like you stole it. Older Mini's are great too in terms of feel and fun. I know what you mean about bikes as I have a BMWr100 and Aprilia but still find the CRX a very fun car(I recently bought one again as after having a couple when I was younger). I dare to say its even more fun than my 996.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was hoping the 996 would grow on me the more I stiffened a few things up on it, and slowly gave it a more "raw" feeling. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep up with my typical self, getting bored with a car. It never really was all that much fun for me to drive, yes it's somewhat quick, handles great, but bores me doing it some how... Haha who knows.

POST 10Original post

Hate to see you leave ccaarmerciill, but you have to do what keeps you happy. Enjoy the bikes and the weather for the rest of us looking outside at snow on the ground.

Maybe you should try a 70's or 80's 911... they are more visceral to drive. Manual steering, clunky transmission, noisy... but I agree, HI is not a great place for a sports car, so maybe that is the real issue here.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I still love my P-cars. I'm sure on day I'll be back in one (likeliest scenario would be the new Cayman S once it drops in price) I always come back!

POST 13Original post

Wanna sell the RoW M030 suspension? I say do what makes you happy. I would think the weather in HI would be super conducive to riding a bike year round, and you should get one hell of a bike for your 996 sale proceeds. Ride safe!

Haha, my suspension doesn't even have 500 miles on it, but I guess it'd make a good selling point. Planning on getting the 2014 KTM 690 Enduro R. That bike seems to fulfill exactly what I'm looking for in a bike here. Was previously considering a 500 EXC but too high maintenance for something that will mostly be street ridden, don't need a race dirt bike with plates on it.

completely off topic -> which Aprilia do you have? I had a Shiver before, looking into maybe a MV Aug Brutale now to the OP: I can have more "easy fun" driving my wife's almost stock G35 Coupe. The difference, is that at some point the G35 gives up and doesn't want to go any faster. The 911 keeps pushing me to drive faster and more importantly to drive better.

POST 16Original post

Since this is already hijacked, that 690 will be my next Thumper, had a KLR, I like the riding style, but needed more go... Alpine003, I have an older Aprilia Falco with Penske/Traxxion Dynamics suspension, OZ wheels, a little CF, very nice ride, that MV would be sweet, for 2 wheels, anything Italian!

POST 17Original post

If your gonna chill on the island, get a Jeep, bruh!

POST 19 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just listed my car for sale in the for sale ads. Any member on here on the West Coast interested, I'll give a good deal to a member, and pay for shipping from Hawaii.

POST 20Original post

I can relate to what you're feeling with your car. My C4S was very well-sorted in the suspension department with plans of tracking it. However, that whole "free time" thing is scarce for me and the track-oriented suspension on the street was quite harsh and sucked a lot of the fun out of driving the car for me. On top of that, whenever the weather was bad, I just drove my truck, and when the weather was nice I wanted to ride my motorcycles! However, for me, after going a few months without a car I realized how much I do like having one, so I ended up buying another 996 to fill the hole in my soul. But yeah, I can see how it just wouldn't be all that great having a fun, fast car in HI. If I lived there I'd probably have a lifted Toyota and a couple adventure bikes myself.

POST 21Original post

Good luck with the sale! Your Speed Yellow 996 looks very good.

POST 23Original post

Bummer you are selling such a nice car! Good luck on the bike and keep the shiny side up. I have an Aprilia Falco SL1000R with SL Carbon exhaust, FP chip, mille swingarm as well. Love the bike... but hate riding these days since there are too many distracted drivers. Cheers, -Kalyan

POST 24Original post

The diatracted drivers were always there, you are just getting older.

I don't remember smartphones and in-car NAV/infotainment systems in the 90's. But yeah I am getting older as well since now I actually have to think about taking my bike 160+mph on the highway unlike when I was younger and dumber...
