Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello all, So I was wrenching a little today preparing for a track day I have in two weeks at Little Talladega and while putting new rear brake pads on I found this crack on the inside of one of my rear rims! (actually there were two of these cracks about 12 inches apart on that rim). I've never had this happen before....have any of you? I have posted in the member to member wanted section asking if anyone has a 996.362.140.03 (5 spoke), but if anyone who reads this has one they can sell me I'd really appreciate it. Send me a pm if you do. And I thought you guys might like to see my 2002 C2 as it was getting worked on in my garage...

POST 2Original post

it has happened to me on my S4 before. Nice garage!

POST 3Original post

Its not uncommon, most of the time if its a nice wheel it will just bend. Must have been a hell of a bump to crack it.

POST 4Original post

Happened to me also. It is much more common on the 10/11" deep rears than the 8" deep fronts. When I was calling around for a new one I believe it was wheel dynamics that told me that the deeply cantilevered barrel, supported by the spokes at the outside edge. will flex oval during use with sticky tires and eventually fatigue crack. At the time I found one at Ernie's Wheels in FL Here is mine:
