Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
As far as oiling the filter I wouldn't run a K&N without oiling it.

Suggestion
Have been running these for years, there is no issue, unless probably if you over oil the darn thing.

Use a micro-mesh sock as this will prevent your MAS from getting all oiled up.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Greetings fellow passionate Porsche owners! I'm new to the forum, and this is my first post. Through researching previous posts, I'm eagerly awaiting a set of 3.6 cans I found on eBay with the FisterD/hack/PSE mod already done for my 2000 996 Cab. It sounds like exactly what I'm looking for exhuast wise. Also considering some of the cold air kits out there with the BMC F1 filter, air box exhuast plug, silicone tube etc... I would greatly appreciate any insight/experiences with the respective kits, do it, don't do it, any difference in sound/performance? Many thanks in advance, and looking forward to being a more involved member of the forum!
First you gotta post up pics newb.
However,
Do it for sound only. I wouldnt buy the claimed HP gains on any of them. I just did the K&N kit. That and the Fisters and you will freaking LOVE your car more than you can possibly imagine.....especially since you supposedly have a cab!
I assumed that it would only involve an induction sound improvement, and minimal hp, if at all, but that's what I'm looking for with the modded 3.6 cans and the induction system at this point. Probably more serious mods down the road, becasue I'm fully aware that once you start "playing around", it's hard to stop! I will get some photos up in the next day or so...when I can figure out how to do so here. Again, I'm new to the sight and it doesn't appear to be as seemless as say Facebook. I've given it a quick attempt, but need to head out for the evening. Thanks for the responses though!
I have a like new K&N air intake kit (complete with instructions) that I am not using. Also comes with the dry-charger sock... let me know if you are interested.
Yeah, I like the look of the Fabspeed & K&N kits(not researched the EVO yet), but I live in Seattle, & yes!, the rumors are true about the rain here & I have concerns with water getting inducted with those systems. This is why I'm thinking about plugging up the air box muffler, adding the silicone hose, & adding a better air filter. As with the Fister 3.6 cans, I'm presently just looking for better induction/exhaust notes, & if a few ponies come with that...an added bonus! Too much hp is almost enough after all!
Not trying to sell you on anything, but from the pictures that I have seen, the Fabspeed has the air filter just under the port in the rear engine lid. The K&N's filter is a bit further away and behind a shield, which looks like it would offer better rain protection. That is what sold me. I would do some more research on it before you put one on due to your area's climate.
Also, whatever you get, do not oil your filter! Use a micro-mesh sock as this will prevent your MAS from getting all oiled up.
I live in a dry climate of course but I would not use my K&N in the rain as a daily driver even with the little sock thingy they give you. Just my opinion. When I wash the car that area gets soaked.
As far as oiling the filter I wouldn't run a K&N without oiling it. That is how it is designed to work to provide adequate filtration and there is already enough debate about filtration on these filters.
I have a KN filter on all my cars, I oil them all. All my cars have a MAF downwind. Dont they all? Have been running these for years, there is no issue, unless probably if you over oil the darn thing.
The schnell intake hose with the airbox exhaust cap works pretty well. I have it installed on my car. Intake sound is noticibly improved and coupled with a sport exhaust and 200 cell cats the car sounds amazing.
Lets see some pics eh?!
Sorry to be off topic, but I can't seem to upload photos to this site. Every time I try, the site says the upload failed and gives me no reason why. I've never had a problem doing so on other sites. Am I missing a trick here? A bit frustrating, because I'd love to share some photos of my car, as well as the before/after videos when I get my FisterD modded cans on early next week! Has anybody else had issues or can provide any insight?
