Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that report identifying a cause
1
0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
It turns out that while this transmission is pretty bulletproof and basically never fails (you have the same one I do, it is actually made by Mercedes, the 722.6), the one area that is a common problem is leaks from the main gaskets (there are two).
Leading evidence: 'leaks' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'leaks' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace atf makes it leak more - usually does' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Also, while it's worth a try, don't be surprised if changing the ATF makes it leak more - usually does.

today i will be changing the ATF, filter, and gasket.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hi guys,
i have a 996 4s 2003, and i am facing the following with my gear box:
on both tip and auto when i give a gas fro 1st to 2nd the gear pops, its like a gap in shifting ans the psm starts flashing. its very clear in the 1st to 2nd gear, but i think the problem is in all shifts.
note,
i can notice a small drops of oil (one every two days) and i dont know if its engine or gear fluid.
Regards
I had this issue a few months ago, small leaks coming from my automatic transmission / gearbox. It turns out that while this transmission is pretty bulletproof and basically never fails (you have the same one I do, it is actually made by Mercedes, the 722.6), the one area that is a common problem is leaks from the main gaskets (there are two). In the event your tranny fluid should get to low, it will put itself into "limp home" mode. The issue here, however, is that Porsche does not sell the gaskets, and neither does Mercedes. They are pretty much impossible to find, so your mechanic will need to make you a gasket. This has been discussed a few times here and on Renntech.
Also, while it's worth a try, don't be surprised if changing the ATF makes it leak more - usually does.
yesterday the garage called me to tell me that my car needs a gear overall !!!!!!!!!
i wen there and he told me he added some gear oil. but still the problem (gear pops and gap notice) still exists. i said ok and i took the car, but what i have noticed that the problem has vanished from 1st to 2nd, but its there from 2nd to 3ed and u barley notice it........................
confused !!!!!!!
