Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Anyone got a suggestion for a replacement? I need a new one for both the 986 and 996. I'd like to find something lighter than the stock units.
Whadayathink?
Tryin' to gain another 1/10th of a second? I want a bigger battery to hold a charge for my boom box, strobe lights, and undercarriage neon.
You know they make them, but the amps are way down. Track car, maybe. Daily driver, no.
2 '99 Porsches, 986,996.
2 OE batteries, 3 Optima Red tops (less than 2 years each), 1 Costco series 48 (less than 2 years), all died. Costco had discontinued Porsche batteries.
Currently running in 986 Optima with just over 2 years, in 996 Walmarts best #48 at $77 for a month now.
For personal reasons I detest shopping at Walmart, but they had the best battery for $43 less than the auto parts chain store that I also don't like.
It's lightweight because the driver's wallet is much much lighter.
I'm using a Duralast type 48 battery from Autozone. Direct replacement as OEM, and it has a vent tube, similar to OEM.
I have been hearing generally good reviews of Optimas. Here are a couple useful threads to save you searching thru a ton of threads.

I found these a while ago because I am kind of tempted too. No vent either
I went with an Interstate H-7. Not lighter, but an exact size replacement fit. Interstate batteries are high quality and I have had very good luck with them. These cars have long battery cables and I did not want a marginal quality battery stressing the electrical system.
