I would not worry if it was the RMS as some cars run forever and never need that changed.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ok, I found a 02 C4 Tiptronic Cabriolet w/55K miles. Carfax shows at around 30K miles: Front crankshaft oil seal replaced Antifreeze/coolant flushed/changed Transmission checked Brake fluid flushed/changed Airbag system checked and at around 45K miles, oil / filter changes. Tires are in great condition. Car is very pretty compared to some of the ones I've seen this weekend - I mean they're totally BS'ing when they say "excellent condition" - how they've absued these cars I don't know.... Anyway I am doing a PPI this week. Dealer can do aftermarket warranty after PPI ! Price is coming in between $31-$33K. SHOULD I DO IT.....!

POST 3Original post

Sounds good to me. Price seems high though. Tips don't sell, I know firsthand. Buy it, and then never read this forum again and sleep well.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hmm...so I've scoured ebay, autotrader, cars.com for 3 wks. Anything in 8/10 condition or better are $35K or so. Are tips that worse off in pricing? Thanks!

POST 5Original post

My experience has been 15-20% less and a much tougher resale. There are far fewer buyers who want a tip. But, it's only money. You'll lose so much in depreciation that you soon won't care. Do your homework, get a PPI, and enjoy.

POST 6Original post

The asking prices and the final sale prices are 2 completely different things. $31-33K for a tip with no warranty is probably high unless the car has other goodies e.g. aerokit, suspension upgrade, interior upgrades etc.. I can tell you from experience, nobody is paying $31-33K for that car However, if you are looking for a 6 speed C4 Cab, PM me for the goods.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I'm not the type to repeat a question hoping to get an answer that will help me rationalize a decision...but a few add'tl pts and questions: 1. car is really in immaculate condition - in an out. 2. it's a tiptronic - which is what i want (given it's a DD through terrible boston traffic) 3. there are parts of the interior that are the same color as the body - I hadn't seen that before - is that aftermarket or from factory. 4. it has white faced gauges - again is that factory or aftermarket? 5. is front crankshaft oil seal the same thing as RMS? I think I can get sell to get to around $31k . assuming PPI checks out I can even get the thing CPO'd (via dealer) or aftermarket warranty. Thanks

POST 8Original post

is there a link to it "for sale" painted interior is an option, some have done it aftermarket because thier car didnt come the way they wanted it. I believe the faceplates are aftermarket, might have been an option. I would say that the report is not always perfectly descriptive... they replaced a seal...there are lots of them and if they dont leak, leave them alone. If they do, replace them. I would not worry if it was the RMS as some cars run forever and never need that changed. plus - you stated you would get a warranty, so IF something leaks later, have them fix it.... dont get worried about it... get the PPI..

POST 9Original post

If you can get it CPO'd out the door for $31K that is decent. Honestly, in the absolute best condition, Tips don't sell for that kind of money. Negotiate harder if it is the car you want. 3 That is most likely a factory exclusive option. Are you referring to the center consol and seat backs? If it is factory there are 3 digit codes on the white sticker on the under side of the trunk lid. If you have codes that begin with an "X" most likely they are referring to the interior body panels painted in the exterior color(among other options that are exclusive) 4same as question 3 or could be added aftermarket. 5 yes

POST 10Original post

If you can go CPO @ 31K thats not to bad, sure you dont want a 6 speed??

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

just saw your ad...nice car but it's not Tip!

POST 12Original post

Run the VIN number to see the options it came with. If you are getting a tip, look for code 069 - panty protection package.

POST 13Original post

Tips might not have the highest resale $$, but if you want one, don't let that deter you from getting it: this is YOUR car for YOU! If you're buying knowing you're gonna resell, it'll never "feel" like yours and (IMHO) you won't enjoy it as much. +1 for buying it and never coming onto this forum ever again! Too funny Salayc! You probably WILL sleep way more soundly if you do. Haa! JK, you'll want to come back.

POST 15Original post

If you give me $33K, I will buy you a monkey named Steve who will do the shifting for you. Deal? One thing that's not entirely clear, who is selling this car? If it's a Porsche dealer, it should come CPO. IIRC CPO costs the dealer around $2,000, but it's a Porsche backed warranty. A 3rd party extended warranty which is really an insurance policy and with the same coverage and term as CPO (2 yr/100K miles) will probably cost you $3,000 - 4,000.

+1. I bought a tip because of So Cal traffic and have not regretted it, particularly now that it's my DD (it's just so hard to jump into the F-150 these days...) I'm pretty sure there are locality differences that aren't being considered in the previous posts, Cabs are a little more in demand here. I bought my '01 C2 Cab with not quite 50k miles on it a year ago August for $35K and that turned out to be the best deal for me after shopping for three months. I think I figured that the Cab was a $3k-$5k premium out here... and that there weren't many tips available, so I don't know if there was a real differential, positive of negative, for that option. From all of the information you provided, I'd say go for it! Rudy
