Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

I'm not the oil expert (obviously) but are they suggesting 5.5K for just comparative reasons or for your change interval?

oil analysis, some positive comments on the 996 engine

Performed · outcome unconfirmed

FYI.....I recently changed my interval from 5K to 7.5K.

Suggestion

Also, for those tracking their car, do you still stay with the same interval for oil changes or do you change your oil after or before each event?

oil analysis, some positive comments on the 996 engine

Performed · outcome unconfirmed

I recently changed oil from 0/40 to 5/30 and the "white smoke" problem on my 2002 996 seems to have gone away.

I guess one starts to believe that 56k is high mileage for a Porsche, as many are just used a couple times a year it would seem.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well, in a time when there seems to be some negative sentiment towards the NA 996 engine. I thought I would share this with the rest of the community. The engine has 56K on it, as based on the analysis comments, I would say its got another 56K at least on it. Chris

POST 2Original post

So 5K is too soon for an oil change? Push it 5.5K doens't make sense. I'm not the oil expert (obviously) but are they suggesting 5.5K for just comparative reasons or for your change interval? Thanks for postsing Chris!!! Very informative. FYI.....I recently changed my interval from 5K to 7.5K.

POST 3Original post

Good info! A couple of questions... Any particular reason you're running 5w30 as oppose to 0W40? Also, for those tracking their car, do you still stay with the same interval for oil changes or do you change your oil after or before each event?

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Siberian: Hmm, good point. My local "speed" shop put the oil in and Blackstone tests the viscosity. I just glazed over this obvious issue. I have been having doubts about this shop recently, and this only adds fuel to the fire. At this point, its not an issue as the oil was just recently changed by the dealer.

POST 5Original post

Having a good oil analysis at 56k miles isn't really a "positive comment", it's just expected for any reasonable engine. Having a good oil analysis at 156k miles is a positive comment

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Uber, yes that is very true. I guess its a good start. Also, the comments about wear on the engine point towards the potential for a good oil analysis at 156k. I guess one starts to believe that 56k is high mileage for a Porsche, as many are just used a couple times a year it would seem. I often think of a 996TT I saw at a dealer recently. Car was a 2001 6 speed in silver. Interior have every piece of carbon fiber you could think of, along with dev stiching, seat belts, you name it! Anyway, the car had 7,000 miles on it!

POST 7Original post

I recently changed oil from 0/40 to 5/30 and the "white smoke" problem on my 2002 996 seems to have gone away. If it returns, I shall update accordingly. Maybe that's why he changed the weight.
