Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Reported cause
PO had records since new and every single detail / issue was addressed.
Leading evidence: 'addressed' (1 discussions report identifying this cause; no attributable repair resolution). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'addressed' (1 discussions; 1 report identifying it and 0 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Recommend summer and winter tires' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The dealer likes to change the pads, sensors and rotors for every brake change.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Kelly, We do have a Cayenne forum you know.
I have an 04 CS as well and enjoy it way more than I ever expected to. The drive is more "sport sedan" than truck and it's great for hauling the Kid, Dog and bikes.
But, like any other Porsche there are weaknesses and issues, Check out the Cayenne forum and do some research if you are contemplating a used one.
Another with the 04 CS.
I love mine and drive it mostly in winter, or when I'm going on the Cross Bronx Expressway. The Cayenne forum lists the common problems - coolant tubes, cardan shaft.
Hi Marc, yeah, I know about the Cayenne forum but to a degree, I KNOW you guys and want to hear what you say
It's my winter vehicle since I can't drive the 911 during the winter. They don't plow the side streets here and the ruts just get too deep to navigate. I've ALWAYS had a pickup and I"m not sure I want to give up that utility but an SUV may be more useful these days. It's also the dogmobile......
Fair enough, to be honest I was never a fan of the Cayenne, Than I got the opportunity to buy the CEO of my companies Cayenne S at a price I could not refuse. So I bought it, Sold my Saab 9-5 beater and made it my daily driver, it's a great truck that I genuinely enjoy driving, does great in the snow and is fun in the dry. Only downside is typical Porsche maintenance costs, they do eat tires and brakes and gas mileage is just plain horrific, especially the way I drive
+1
Be prepared to spend $75+ every time you visit the gas station. And I agree with Marc - Cayennes eat tires up pretty quickly.
The Cayenne certainly doesn't have the same level of utility that you'd get from a truck, but it's a great winter vehicle and it does offer some utility.
"Only downside is typical Porsche maintenance costs, they do eat tires and brakes and gas mileage is just plain horrific"
I definitely agree. I had 2 Cayennes for winter drivers, first I had the 05 S, 13mpg. New tires every 20k miles. $300 oil changes and $1,400 brakes. I then got the 08 V6, slightly better mileage at 16mpg, basically the same maintenance costs/schedule for tires and brakes.
I gave up and got a 535xi (20mpg, $0 maintenance, covered by BMW), but I still sometimes miss the Porsche experience in the winter. The Cayenne is a great handling, great looking truck.
You won't get brakes done for $1,400 at the dealer... that must have been from and indy. The dealer likes to change the pads, sensors and rotors for every brake change. That's generally closer to $2,300. I did my brakes myself on the first change, and I had an indy do it the second time.
I've had mine since new. After the initial tsbs were done, it's been relatively trouble-free. It left me dead only once when the cooling pipes burst and were replaced under warranty. It remains a great driving SUV. However, I wasn't as enthusiastic about the non-air suspension Cayennes.
In terms of tires, I had complaints about wear until I switched to Toyota Proxes II. The last set held up for over 35k miles.
What about Mercedes ML 320 or BMW X5 diesel? Both good looking cars and gets over 31mpg on hwy. Jeep Cherokee also offered diesel from 07 to 08. Its got the Mercedes power plant in there.
An Audi Q7 diesel would be nice too...
My wife and I were at the Porsche dealer last week and we took a quick look at new Cayennes and at Audis. She likes both, but our next vehicle will most likely be another Cayenne. We've been happy with ours.
I have Cayenne #3 on the boat crossing the Atlantic. Had a 2004 S. Have a 2008 Turbo and am awaiting my 2112 Turbo.
I recommend summer and winter tires. For the most ride comfort get the smallest wheel diameter, and air suspension. I usually ride in comfort unless I want to have fun in the twisties. If you track your car, it is a towing beast. Even with a smaller wheel *** and track than my Yukon Denali, the brakes and suspension make it a better tow vehicle for an open trailer.
Handles great, fun to drive, holds an acceptable amount of cargo,'rear seat is comfortable.
Bad side: Eats tires about 15k, Brakes, I get 20-28k.
It has prevented me from buying a sport sedan, because I can convince myself, a sport sedan can do anything better than my Cayenne.
Brother just sold his 996 Turbo, but has a Cayenne Turbo as a DD. It's an '05 and is still CPOed. Good thing as he had a couple of issues recently that cost over $5k to fix. His instrument cluster needed a full replacement and also a motor related problem that would have otherwise been on his dime. This is his second Cayenne. If you have the where-with-all to keep it on the road, why not?
We shopped for SUVs for a while and finally found a 1 owner CTT with 61k miles. PO had records since new and every single detail / issue was addressed. No coolant pipe upgrades yet and they are next in list. Probably will have it done in the next few months to come. No issues at all.
Wife drives it more during the week but I get to drive her on weekends. Definetely drives more like a car and not a Truck
