Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Well I will be joining you folks over here on the 996 board soon. Just purchased a 2000 C4 and wil fly down to LA and get the 911 next week. I will be keeping my 968 Cab so I'll stay connected on both boards. This C4 should be fun as it has TehArt suspension and exhaust. Good news is that the current owner had already replaced the IMS and Rms parts at the 60,000 mile service.
Have fun! Not far from me at all! wow, 38 years later!
Hope you are driving the 996 down.
Looks like I am taking the Cayenne on it's maiden family voyage to visit my in-laws near Buffalo, NY this weekend. .. joy.
Mark,
You will like the Cayenne ride. The NY troopers are out this summer. Many of them shooting lasers so no warning. I got tagged coming back from Montreal. Fortunately we were in a car train of 10+ cars all moving at 80mph+ so the troopers decided to pull back and wait for fewer number of cars. One was shooting and one pulling cars over. Talk about safety in numbers...
hmmm.... what seems suitable to invade...?

Someone told me that 2nd saturday each month, p-cars meet up @ XXX.
..or..
We could always meet up @ the cars and coffee @ Redmond Town Center on Saturdays.
RTC is a great group, just a little too exotic for me... lots of Ferraris and Lambos (new expensive stuff) but always a warm welcome, I went there many times
Hello fellow Northwesterners. I have been to the XXX meets - You can find info on this on the Pelican site Pacific Northwest... (LOOOONG Thread). Often these fellows go for a "spirited country road drive" after downing one of those great Burgers. Great fun if you can keep up. As soon as I have the new 996 I will look forward to joining you there - which will need to be in August as I will be in CA getting the 996 next Sat. By the way - this is a very friendly group - all ages and types of Porsches - but more old P-cars than you see on a PCA Club meet.

Ed,
Like you - I had a great time - and was exhausted at the end of the day - and the wife had some evening plans so we left about 5 pm. Thanks for that exciting ride in the Red Rover "No Rules" Carrera - it was a blast. You & your Porsche just remind me that ANY Porsche is a Great Sports Car. A joy to ride in, Drive, or just look at. Yours is a testimony of how long they last and still bring great fun to the owners. The whole DS day was a hoot and I loved making my C4 slide and spin (though it took deliberate effort to do it). The Autocross at days end was fun - and as far as I know I did not kill any Cones...
I think I have attached a few Pix of the C4 for those who are interested.
Nice Pics Jack....
I am glad you had a good time and your wife allowed for free time at the end of the day...we always have to remember the long drive home. I left the house at 5:30am and got home around 8:30pm...its a bit much but I love it sooooo much.
You know there is always another chance to kill a cone, just remeber to steer away from me !!
I had fun watching your growth on the accident avoidance and advance slalom finding those limits and getting more comfortable with your new car.
take care and see ya around!
look at the stance, pretty nice! it drives very well thru the slalom, (from watching the outside) looks like its still soft enough on the road (I would add bigger sways, I forgot to check if those where upgraded) The exhaust is interesting...its Techart but "looks" like stock... pretty tame, a little quieter than PSE but has a nice tone. very subtle -
?how do you like your 'newer' Porsche Jack?
I LOVE it! This is a very sweet combination of a modern Porsche 911 and all the traditional aspects of a 911 Coupe. It is a bit roomier - more powerful - more efficient (min. 21 MPG no matter how I drive Excpt Track) - nicely equipped but not overdone with Techno Wiz. Many complaints I read said 996 ... Interior to Cheep - Suspension to Soft - Exhaust to Quite. With all Leather interior there in nothing Cheep here & with TechArt Coilovers lowered 35 mm it is very crisp handling - and as Ed remarked the TechArt Header Exhaust is not loud but mellow with a rrrrap at full throttle. It is all just what I was looking for in a Daily Driver... and maybe an Auto X 911... ;-)
Not sure about the techart suspension and if it is soft. I do know using progressive springs works wonders and wonder if possibly the suspension you have is a progressive spring setup. Anyway progresive springs are a good deal and they might get misread as being soft
The Coil-overs suspension is quite firm. In fact the only thing I was not completely happy with was the "Giggly" ride on less than smooth surfaces. I however assumed some of that was the 9 year old Conti's on the car. They where "hockey puck hard". Today I put on new Conti ExtremeContact DW tires and WoW what a difference. The ride is still firm but now the tires absorb the road irregularities and I think it is the right balance between great responsive handling and a reasonable ride for every day street use. I will run these tires in abit and take the 996 back for another day around the Cones. We will see how it sorts on on the new rubber then.
Are these the Dry/Wet tires? I read some good stuff on those when a magazine took some of the top tires to the track. They beat even summer only tires others figure as the cats meow. Best thing is their price.
In the article it shows the stats of all tested tires and the contis did better in the dry than even some dry weather tires at over twice the price. The compounds used are from their european makes. Great tires and what I was figuring on using some time in the future. I don't like being worried about slipping and sliding in the rain. They are a superior wet tire braking and in turns.
Yes these are the new compound Conti's with the D and W molded into the tread. These are just one step down from the ultimate Dry Summer tires and compare in the "Max Performance Summer" category along with the $250 and up Tires rated "N" for Porsche. Living in the Pacific North West and wanting this C4 to be a Daily Driver, I chose the best "in the rain" tire and skipper spending $$$ on the N's. These are W speed rated and the fronts are XL load rated. I have the original 17 Twist wheels and it is becoming more difficult to find tires in this size so I was very happy with the pricing $146 front & $162 rears (Discount Tire). I considered the "DWS" version of the tire which was even a few bucks cheaper - but for real Snow and Ice driving I have a A6 Quattro with X-Ice tires. I will report more after the winter and see how these tire compared to the Bridgestone 750's on our 968.
Remember strange things are delt out hydroplaning.
The mag had those conti's better than the hankooks and some others. General and Continental just aren't mad on price stickers. They are hard core profiters in the tire industry since they even get government contracts. They have been around since the beginning so playing gay with having a price high is not their deal. It's just another tire the giants are putting out. It is one hell of a tire they developed in europe.
A W speed rating is just right.
I'm still investigating this, but my 2001 C2 is averaging 15 MPG in town when I do virtually no heavy acceleration, and around 13 MPG with spirited driving. You are getting 21 MPG regardless?
Okay, since no one else has commented on 'em, I'm going to... What the hell, Jacks911, you've had that car months and it STILL has the pumpkins on it?? Very disappointed, my friend, very disappointed indeed... Expect to have a Rennlist intervention shortly...
LOL Seriously, though, beautiful car, man!
I got 18.5mpg thrashing around city and a little hwy. Then I fill up thinking lets see what it is taking it easy. I got 18mpg driving mostly an easy going style......don't take it easy with the gas is all I learned. I have to try a tank of flying it all the time and see how it does.
I'm just surprised how quickly the needle drops on the gas gauge in my car. I haven't checked to see how many actual gallons I've gone through since my last fill-up, but my trip odometer is at 80 miles, and the gas level at just above the 1/2 way mark.
The gas tank holds 16.9 gallons. If the gauge is correct, and I've gone through roughly 8 gallons, my actual gas milage is just about 10 MPG(!), even though the OBC says 15 MPG. 15 MPG aint great, but 10 is horrible.
OK - so I Will get rid of the Pumpkins... but having spent over $3k on maintenance in just 5 months I will wait a bit for the clear corner lamps.
As for my MPG... with problems in the Cooling System and our cold weather I have lost the good MPG. Short story told elsewhere - Weather changes & Seattle temps down in 40's - CEL on - Replace Sensor No Help - replace T-stat & discover there was NO T-stat ! That answers the question "why does it take 20 miles or 20 minutes to get Heat?"
So Now with new Water Pump (preventive Maint) & T-Stat (12/22) & Tires we will see how the MPG is again. With mostly slow in-town driving and short freeway drives on this tank it is saying 15.9 MPG. We'll need time to see how is goes. No doubt it was much better in the summer months with mostly weekend trips.
Anyway - we love this combination of options on the C4 - and it really will be a daily driver - except that my wife insists on driving "Her" 968 when it is her day to drive our two person carpool. The C4 will be the rainy day Porsche and it is a very competent driver in the wet. Now when (if) we see sun again...
Thought it was time for a change - Pixs was in the Redwood Forest on our trip home after purchasing the C4. That was a great trip - and I would like to make the round trip again some day.
By the way Ed - you are an expert on posting Pixs - I did it once and cannot seem to figure it out now. I do not have an HTTP URL to collect photos in - so how do I just select from a stored location on disk and upload???
The easiest way is to use a pic hosting sight like
www.photobucket.com
. It's free and comes in handy when you want to easily share pics.
Thanks for the follow-up on the MPG you're getting. I hadn't thought about the cold weather having an affect on fuel efficiency. I'm showing 14.9 on my OBC for about the same sort of driving you describe.
Odd that your car didn't have a thermostat.
