I just bought a set on ebay for a good price so I will find out what all this 'flashing' talk is about I guess whenever I get around to putting it on my to do list and removing one of the spouses 'to do's'.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

About a year ago I had to replace 1 crakced OEM tailight and for as much as I was going to pay for 1 OEM replacement, I bought the LED tailights and installed them myself (needed to solder in a set of resistors to prevent hyper flash). I can't tell you how awesome they look and how much they improve the tail of the 996. Total positive upgrade over the OEM tailights and I LOVE them. It's hard to explain but without making them look like a tricked out honda civic (believe me I hate those and all the other tricked out Fast and Furious cars) they drasticlly improve the look of the rear - making them look modern. I will just say the pics and the video do not show how great they look at night. Rear LED

POST 2Original post

Are these the smoked or the clear? I agree that they look great.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 7997395

These are the smoked. Thanks!

POST 7Original post

I agree it looks great and woudl look even better on my slate grey coupe where did you get them

POST 9Original post

Uggh, pull those POS off and send them to me so I can burn them. You can send them to: 123 Any St. Temecula Ca. 92592 I will expect them in 10 business days.

POST 10Original post

Oh and before you send them I want to see a youtube video of them blinking...... ASAP

POST 11Original post

The lights don't look too bad, smoked is the better choice. btw what brand of rims do you have there atx.911?

POST 12Original post

I like it too. I'd really consider it if they were available for wide body cars like the C4S or the turbo, but I don't think they are...

POST 13Original post

I would actually like to see someone make a clear and smoked housing for these with regular halogen bulbs. Just having the tail lights that are someone clearer (I think they call it crystal lights that became in fashion > 2002) would be great.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks fellas, will post the yellow blinking video sometime this week. I got them from these guys - LED tail lights . I don't remember the tail lights being that expensive at the time but it's been about a year. They have red smoked and white smoked ones. The RPK-038's rims are from WheelDynamics . I really like their new 808 series, I would have gotten those had they been out when I was looking to buy new wheels.

POST 16Original post

Quotes source post: 7997389

Did the resistors come with the lights?...or did you have to figure out what to use?

POST 17Original post

Nothing for widebody 996's right? I believe that the tail lights are different, correct?

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 8022456, 8022553

No I had to purchase them from an electronics store like Fry's. I did have to research and learn how to fix "hyperflash". I am not sure. I don't remember seeing anything but they may be available.

POST 19Original post

You can get them from Amazon for under $300. Available in both smoke and clear. They used to be $229 for a while on Amazon too.

POST 20Original post

So I ordered both the clear and smoked. The clears came perfect. The smoked came all broken up - I think they were former returns. On MY Mk2 996 it will NOT work without wiring in parallel 50W 20ohm resistors. Will post pics later this wknd

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 8024295

I wonder what's up with that!! Nice, show us pics when you get it done!

POST 22Original post

if you can explain exactly where you soldered the resistors that would be great. I am still planning to buy another as my first batch were broken

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 8024791

you need to buy 4 resistors. for turn signals I bought 25w resistors for stop light 50w resistors you need to solder them in parallel to each of their respective wire harnesses. i haven't tried a body fit yet - will do that next. if it sucks i'm not going to do it either.

POST 25Original post

Why would they not come with required resistors? Seems crazy not to be included.

POST 26Original post

Quotes source post: 8025589

So as long as people keep buying them and wiring in their own resistors I guess the manufacturer figures why bother. It just increases cost for them. It's not like it's an OEM product or anything. It's pretty crudely made...

POST 27Original post

You may also get fault codes as the ECU sees a lower 'value' number due to the LED's lower wattage.

POST 28Original post

Quotes source post: 8026148

I love these but have heard that it screws up the computer system. Does the resisitor discussion help this issue?? Love the look but worried.............

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I never had any issues because of the LEDs, I keep hearing about ECU this and and ECU that, electrical this eletrical that. lol if you are worried about having eletrical problems because of the LED's, I think the LEDs causing eletrical problems should be the least of your worries lol....just keeping it real... Since I have had my car and before the LED's, let's see.. sunroof motor, both power window regulators (worn cabling), freon o-ring, starter mechanism....and this car is not my daily driver.. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I only had to solder in 1 pair of resistors 1 on each side only for the turn signals. When I got the LED's, my flashers were blinking way too fast which is what they call "hyperflash". Then the research I did turned up this post on 6speed. http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...-lights-6.html

You found something that fits wide body cars? If this is true, I'd like to know more - like where you bought them. Also, I'd love to see a pic on the car when you install them.

The sizing tool in that ad shows that these will fit a Carrera, a Carrera 4, Carrera 4S or turbo. The lights that fit a NB car won't fit a WB car, so something's not right. I'm guessing they won't fit a C4S or a turbo.

POST 36Original post

So what value were the resisters, other than the working wattage? What resistance?

POST 37Original post

I just bought a set on ebay for a good price so I will find out what all this 'flashing' talk is about I guess whenever I get around to putting it on my to do list and removing one of the spouses 'to do's'. Got all winter now anyway. From what I have found on other forums they are called LED load equalizers and are 25W each (2 needed). There are people on ebay who will sell you a little kit for a couple of bucks or you can go to radio shack and make your own up. I find the LED third brake light is over priced for what it really is and how many LED's that are in these strips, somewhere around $90 is stupid. I'm thinking of making one of those up using an old housing I have here lying around.

POST 38Original post

does anyone have a pic of the non smoked installed???
