Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My '02's bi-xenon headlights are a bit temperamental at times, not coming on right away when headlights are switched on. Many times they come on right away like the should, other times the light up after a few seconds and other times I must switch on and off several times to get them to light! Anyone else have this issue, or a quick fix for it? Seems like either the switch is going out or some electronic control is not working as it should, but of course it will never do it on demand at the dealer!

POST 2Original post

I haven't had that issue with mine. Perhaps your switch is going bad.

POST 3Original post

Do a search on replacing the headlight switch. Very common and many of us have documented the change. About $100 for the part and an hour of your time.

POST 4Original post

Mine would not ignite reliably - replaced the switch (do a search on google. got mine for around $80 new). They now work much better. I believe the connector between headlamp and loom in the car is an important item not to overlook. DC4

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all, guess I will start with the switch... I take it replacement is the only option? I haven't pulled it apart but take it that it can not be rebuilt or cleaned to make a more reliable connection?

POST 6Original post

Yup the headlamp switch seems to be culprit. Had the same issue, and replaced in 15 mins. All good

POST 7Original post

good luck with the inexpensive switch fix. however, should it fail to work, my 2004 xenon are for sale.

POST 8Original post

my 2002 had the identical issue. new switch fixed it.
