But a couple of years ago, I paid my indie to put the car on a hoist, remove all the panels and fender liners and steam clean the underside of the car.

I've lost a couple of brake cooling ducts (cheap), and had to replace the rads because the previous owners never cleaned out the area (not cheap).

One to two feet of snow predicted overnight, with winds gusting up to 55 mph...I may decide to leave my Porsche in the garage tonight and tomorrow and use my GMC pickup with plow instead. If that isn't enough, high tide around 3 am with storm surges and high winds might spell trouble here on the coast of Maine...stay tuned.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

20 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

I'll try and take some snow pics tomorrow.

POST 2Original post

Batten down the hatches and hunker down. Be safe and looking forward to the pics.

POST 3Original post

I'm in the middle of it now on Long Island. Lots of snow and wind. I need to go out again for the third time to clear a path. They say up to 2 feet for me, and it's the Cayenne.

POST 4Original post

We here in CNY understand the EastCoast pain... While, we are thankfull that it is not us this time!

POST 5Original post

One guy was talking about going to pick up a 996 he is purchasing on thurday. Oh boy. Might be like being overburdened with dive gear and jumping off the boat with the air off. He better be familiar with his s.........stuff

POST 6Original post

At least a foot of the white stuff here, and the wind is blowing it around something fierce...won't even think of plowing/shoveling until the snow stops...but the winds are supposed to continue, big time. maybe I will torture myself and peek under the car cover.........*sigh*, LRP opens when?????

POST 7Original post

Or you could watch the Video I loaned you and find out more secrets of the glen...

POST 8Original post

17" here in Boston. Thank god for the Cayenne loaner from the dealer Except I did find that the tires were between 6 to 8psi low on each tire. WTF

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 8162503

lower pressure will give you increased traction in snow and low traction situations. Old school offroaders often "air down" to 14 psi for better traction.

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 8162629

That might not be the best advice for a car on the road. 'wheelers air down on soft, bottomless surfaces like mud bogs, beach sand and snow where there isn't any road to get floatation. That's not really what you want for a car on a snow covered road. You want the tire to cut through the snow without any deformation of the tread, and get as much of that tread as possible in contact with the firm underlying surface. This is the reason people who drive in snow switch to narrower tires with higher aspect ratios for the season. Your tires should be aired up to recommended pressures in the winter. Around our country place, where we've had more than six feet of snow so far this year and the drifts are yards high, even the most hardcore redneck mudder is rocking skinny, tall snow tires on his Ram until March comes

I can agree with that. Plus our sidewalls are not designed for that. hey, im not alwayse right.. just 99% of the time.

POST 13Original post

Watched the Glen loaner video a few times already, now I am reading a new (to me) book from the Skip Barber School , written by Carl Lopez, entiitled "Going Faster"....very interesting read....and it just might take me until Spring to finish it.

POST 14Original post

24 inches here.. Cayenne Is great in snow, wifes Audi even better

POST 15Original post

2nd on the A-4. had to retrieve my daughter yesterday from newark airport after they cancelled all flights. she's here till thursday.

POST 16Original post

We only got about 3 inches from this storm where I live, however it was just enough for them to pour an inch of salt on the roads. Now I am praying for a good rain storm to was away the salt. I never take the Pcar out if there is salt visible on the roads. I need to get past this personal issue because it usually means my car sits idle for the better part of the winter.

POST 17Original post

If it inspires you at all, my '00 has been winter driven since new and is rust free. Porsche did a great job with the body of this car. Winter driving has its hazards, but salt isn't really one of them given a reasonable amount of care.

POST 18Original post

Quotes source post: 8164097

Nice Do you get small paint chips from the excessive salt, etc. on the road? The time or two that I have driven the car with limited salt on the road I cringed the whole time because these tires seem to fling everything on the road up into the car. Maybe I just need to turn up the radio in these instances?

POST 19Original post

A clear bra seems to help with that, but I did replace the windshield a couple of years ago because it was pockmarked from sand and salt over the years. Winter driving isn't consequence-free, for sure. I've lost a couple of brake cooling ducts (cheap), and had to replace the rads because the previous owners never cleaned out the area (not cheap). But a couple of years ago, I paid my indie to put the car on a hoist, remove all the panels and fender liners and steam clean the underside of the car. It looked like new when they were done (and was probably 20 pounds lighter). It's a tough little car, and the b.s. of winter driving is more than worth it for the fun.
