Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

At low rpms, it's loud enough to set off car alarms and sounds quite deep and mean.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi everyone...need some help deciding on an exhaust for my 2004 C4S. Seems like so many choices out there! Ill try to keep this short....
I drive the car on weekends mainly and at PCA track days. Years ago i did Club Racing and SCCA with an early car that went from a daily driver to track only. Thats NOT my goal with this car...
That being said I dont mind a throaty exhaust
Only mod to the car (so far) is a K&N intake.
Im putting a new set of Pilots on it this week (about $1350) so my budget for exhaust is around $1150.
I know the Supercup style sounds incredible but might be a bit much for weekend drives..espcially if i have my 2 boys in the back and the wife riding shotgun.
B&B sounds nice and claims nice horsepower gains on the 996s.
Fabspeed (who makes the Supercup) are in my budget with thier maxflo mufflers.
What else should i be looking at? My early car had headers and straight pipes, i rebuilt my own motors, setup suspensions, etc but ive been sans-porsche for about 10 years and im not too familiar with all this new fangled water-cooled stuff. Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
FisterD
claims of HP gains are wildly thrown around and misunderstood - there have been several people recently say fabspeeds drone, no-one has ever said anything bad about the sound/$$ ratio on the fisterD's (they are a PSE knockoff based on stock mufflers)
no weight savings, nice growl, not loud, no drone, cheap as hell !! top quality and service
Consensus on the forum is likely to be PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust) if you can afford it, and the Fister hack if you can't. After that, it gets
very
subjective. If you go with any other brand, I'd strongly recommend hearing it for yourself and disregarding everything idiots like me tell you on the internet.
(If you're intel-gathering, I have the EVO, which I think is made by Fabspeed. At low rpms, it's loud enough to set off car alarms and sounds quite deep and mean. As rpms rise, it smooths out and has a nice exotic sound. It's all but silent on the highway in the cabin. However, I find it a bit blatty at tip-in. I don't think it turns heads in a good way until I'm rolling).
I have a set of FisterDs and like them very much. A little bit more throaty than stock and little if any drone. For the price - one could not get better value for money.
I have fabspeed cans. Daily driving at low rev (2500-3000) the car sounds like it has a perpetual fart. I try to keep the rpm's up. They sound great full power. I have my stock cans and seriously thinking of sending them to FisterD for an exchange.
I bought the cheapest mufflers I could find. Ztech, which are the same as other companies sell, maxspeed, agency power, which are made in china, but good quality stainless and 200 cell cats etc.
I did the complete exhaust. Its all great, sounds great. about $2500 for the whole thing.
I dont see much point in doing just the mufflers. At least do the cats and mufflers.
I also have the K&N. But the biggest bang and performance increase is the ECU. After getting the REVO ecu program it opened everything up. The intake and exhaust didnt have much of an effect, but after the revo, all the HP was unleashed.
looks like the Fister-D would work perfectly for now. Sounds pretty good on thier video. Combine that with some sport cats and im thinking i might have exactly what im looking for. Guess it will be time to shop around for new cats next =)
Good choice! Low cost, great sound!
FYI, it will take about 500 miles for the new pipe to get "burned in" and once that happens, the sound will be even better than when you first install them.
I ve got my stock cans and i feel like playing around with it. Any crazy ideas for it?
Maybe i can cut open the can to remove all the chambers and weld them back together. paint the cans bright pink and mount it back on.
.... or better yet, paint the cans bright pink and mout them at the ends of the GT2 wing! That would look AWESOME!
Seriously, take them to a local muffler shop and have them do the MK I mod, which adds a J-pipe that connects the inlet and outlet pipes. See pic.
where is a good source for the 200 cell cats? i see maxspeed has them ($1199), Fabspeed ($1595), FVD ($1600)...i could be online searching for hours...where else should i look?
I have the supercups, and love them... yes, they are loud. But I like it. 1 thing to note is that they only weigh 18 1/2 lbs for the pair.... very light, and that is a good savings for the very back of the car.
