Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey folks. Cant find my color code as my color code sticker on the hood is gone. Can someone help me out, as I want to paint some stuff. Regards // Norbert

POST 2Original post

That looks to be the same as mine - Glacier White 3AU What year is your car?

POST 3Original post

I think that Carrera White came back in 2001 or 2002. I'll see if I can find the chart and tell you for sure. Glacier White has a blue tint to it and Carrera White has a reddish tint to it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My is 1999 Tint where, in the color?

POST 5Original post

1999 was Glacier White 3AU/3AT 2000 was Biarritz White 9A2/9A3

In that case you have Glacier White. The blue tint I'm talking about can be seen at a 60 degree angle when you look at it in the shade (hard to see in full sunlight). It's very obvious when you park it next to any other shade of white. I love it because it's a very clean shade... I'm not a big fan of Carrera white - it looks dirty to me in comparison.

POST 7Original post

Now, you'll notice that I gave two paint codes - the variant does matter, as it's tied to the factory and type (solvent vs waterborne) of paint. Sadly I cannot tell you which one you have just by looking at it... probably 3AU same as mine, but I'm not sure how to be sure. 3AU is waterborne 3AT is solventborne

POST 8Original post

This table here confirmed my earlier suspicions that other shades of white were available over the same time period, but chances are that you had the standard white (Glacier) for that year. http://www.uniquecarsandparts.com.au...es_porsche.htm

POST 9Original post

This is the actual chart that I was searching for http://www.porscheclubgb.org/clientf...aint_codes.pdf was a duplicate sticker placed in your user manual as is usually the case?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Wallard, thanks man, I have never noticed any blue tint on my paint and Ive had the car for over a year now hmm.... If I go to Porsche Center, are they able to get the right paintcode?

No problem - you're welcome. Well, it's easier to see when it's parked next to another car... I'll see if I can dig out a photo to illustrate. If you go to the dealer they'll run the VIN and tell you the color code - shouldn't be a problem.

POST 12Original post

Here you go - this is my Glacier next to Carrera White on a new Cayman ..as I said, IMHO Glacier White looks nicer and cleaner.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yeah I belive I have same as you, but the blue thing Im not sure about it, but Ill go to Porsche Center tomorrow to look it up or I go with the code you gave me, its anyways for some interior parts only.

As for the color tint - maybe your eye is not able to pick up on it, but it's certainly there. I have to have an eye for shades of color as part of my job, so I'm sensitized to things like that. It shouldn't be that noticeable if you're using it for interior and not butting it up against other painted parts. One thing I quickly found out with my car is that Porsche makes mistakes on their stickers - the first time I took my car into the dealer they commented that the options list was messed up and the VIN record had a different colored interior (grey vs black) - consequently, the first time I ordered a color coded interior part, then the wrong color arrived and had to be re-ordered. The dealer commented that it happens frequently and it's impossible to get them to correct after the car leaves the factory.

I'm curious, can you tell the difference between the shades of white in the photo above? The reason I ask is that some have problems seeing certain colors. I have a friend that is color blind that cannot see purple or red shades.

POST 16 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Difference is that the 996 is more whiter, like glacier as the cayman is more normal dark white or whatever u call it, dont worry I have a good eye thats why I havent seen any blue tint in my, thats why maybe my is something else, will see tomorrow.

Cool! I was mostly just curious about color perception, as it varies from person to person. Good luck tomorrow!

POST 18Original post

and by the way, it's spelled "Carrara white;" it's named after the town in Italy where Michaelagelo sourced his marble.

Picky, but correct. I had never noted the spelling difference.
