It had been a while since I got my pads changed on my fronts, so I figured I wore them out.

They called me back and said "you have 70% pads left - you just burned up your brake sensor, so we replaced those and you are good to go".

Suggestion
I told them to change the pads, and to go ahead and change the rotors, too if they needed to be, since I figured I probably scraped them up good for driving around on minimal/no pads for so long.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all,
I have a 99 C2 and I'm looking for a reliable place to get some work done to the car. I've just been quoted $900+ for front pads, rotors, and sensors with labor and it seemed a bit steep. Any suggestions for brake work and other miscellaneous Porsche work in the San Diego area? I live in downtown. Thanks!
Go to
ALL GERMAN AUTO
in Escondido. It's certainly worth the 15 minute trip north of San Diego.
These guys are very knowledgeable, honest, and good prices. They even work with Enterprise rent-a-car and will pay for a rental car for as long as your car is in the shop (just a basic car, but still... better than other indies I've been to.).
They won't do work on your car that isn't necessary, and won't rip you off.
I used them everytime I needed anything done to my Porsche when I lived in San Diego - I moved to Baltimore recently.
Have you tried Dieter's (downtown) and Black Forest (Convoy)? I've heard good things about them.
I used to go to Mind Over Motorsports but they just closed down. I heard Brian (the main tech in MoM) is opening a new shop but I have no further details.
Good luck.
One thing about All German Auto that is so great is that I could totally trust them to not do work that wasn't necessary.
Once when I was barrelling down Palomar mountain, my "Brake Wear" light came on. It had been a while since I got my pads changed on my fronts, so I figured I wore them out. I left on a drive for Michigan the very next day, and went across country and back - plus another month or so before I brought the car in. I told them to change the pads, and to go ahead and change the rotors, too if they needed to be, since I figured I probably scraped them up good for driving around on minimal/no pads for so long. They called me back and said "you have 70% pads left - you just burned up your brake sensor, so we replaced those and you are good to go". Wow - they could have done all sorts of work and made lots of money off me, but they were actually honest - unlike so many mechanics around.
This is one example of several times that they showed how honest they are, so I'd trust them over anyone else. The free rental car thing is a big bonus, too.
