VERY fast and stable in the corners and with me behind the wheel set some very nice lap times.

*Most have found that the car could use a little more rear brake bias and use a more agressive pad in the back than in the front (exactly the opposite of what you know from the M3).
Use progressive springs and something i always wanted

In the same token I don't want to have to upgrade later when i grow out of the PSS9s which IIRC use progressive springs and something I always wanted to avoid for track use in the m3.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hey all, I'm looking to sell my 2002 M3 and pick up a 996 MK1 C2 aero and I was wondering what is the hot setup for these cars.
SO, all you track junkies please let everyone know:
1) which suspension you are running, sway-bars, etc
2) spring rate / dampening settings
3) alignment settings
4) wheel/tire setup
5) what you think of your set-up compared to stock or other cars you've driven
Thanks,
-Dan
P.S. Huge thanks to Andy (not sure your name on this forum) for helping convert me to the dark side.
Good to see you here Fissionx, these guys are a friggin plethora of info. Despite what you may be hearing on nceuro you are making the right choice so enjoy.
And the offer still stands on either the 993 or the 996 if you so desire
1) General
: PSS9, GT3 sways, adjustable links, GT3 control arms, new 3.4L, 3rd radiator, Cobra seats, sparco harness, schroth belts, PerformanceBox, Ruf Aero, Pagid Yellow (RS29/19), Fabspeed Muffler Bypass [sounds awesome on track]
2) Springs
: 550 (r)/250 (f),
2) Dampers
: 2(r), 3(f) [1 way adjustable only]
2b) Sways
: neutral (3,3) [keep in mind rear only has 4 holes]
2c)
lowered substantially from stock [can't remember height now]
3) Camber
: F: -2.0 / R: -2.5.
3) Caster
: 8
3) Toe
: F: .05 / R:/ .15
4) Wheels
- AM Turbo twists
4) Tires
- Toyo RA-1 (shaved) 245/40/18, 275/35/18, MPSC (not shaved) 225/40/18, 265/35/18
5)
Superior than stock. And much better than my ROW setup [23mm/20mm sways (not adjustable), 260/170 lb springs, non adjustable everything]. Extra camber not only makes driving better, but saves tires.
You might consider 2-way/3-way adjustable shocks if you will be dedicating your car. Mine is a DD, so the PSS9 is more than adequate for both tasks.

Daily driver (15KMi per year) and occasional track usage (3-5 lapping days a year)
1) H&R Street Performance coilovers (more durable than PSS9),
GT3 Sways set to softest in the rear and 2nd softest in front
Powergrid adjustable links in front (AWESOME links), home made links in the back
2) don't know what the exact spring rates are, I read somewhere that the front is 260lbs
3) Camber F: -1.5 R: -2.0
Caster: 8
Toe: F: 0 R: 0.12
4) Stock 18" turbo twists
Kumho Ecsta SPT, great for street (lots of grip when cold), bad on the track (get's greasy after 3 laps)
looking to get a set of (cheap) track wheels/tires, stock rims with nt01 or R888
5) Way tighter than stock but still quite streetable even on bad roads (after I softened the sways).
After playing with the sways, the car is nice and neutral under maintenance throttle (40 PSI hot F+R).

Nice to see you over here man. Same username for me both places. Although you already know most of the following:
1)H&R Clubsports, GT3 sway bars (1 from stiff front, 2 from stiff rear), GT3 front monoballs rotated for additional camber.
Ride height 108mm F / 118mm rear (
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...ht=ride+height
)
2) 455lb f/ 915lb R - non adjustable
3) -3.2 camber front 1/16 toe out, -2.8 camber rear .20 degrees in per side (helps with bump steer issues in the rear with reduced ride height)
4) 17 x 8.5 Boxster rears as fronts on the 996, 15mm spacer 255/40/17 R888's
18 x 10 Carrera lightweights rear, 295/30/18 R888
5) - Not sure what to say...it's a dream to drive. I've riden in a couple of Moton equipped cars that felt a little better...but that's a big money jump at that point.
6) Brakes: Pagid orange front / Pagid Black rear. *Most have found that the car could use a little more rear brake bias and use a more agressive pad in the back than in the front (exactly the opposite of what you know from the M3).

My old 996 had the following:
PSS9 Bilstein coilovers
GT3 adjustable sways
Custom droplinks
Track rubber
This setup did me JUST FINE. Nicely blended for the street and track. VERY fast and stable in the corners and with me behind the wheel set some very nice lap times. But don't forget. Any fool can drive a car. It's HOW you drive the car that's the difference.
My advice - start small. Then work you abilities up. Build the car as you progress.
Good luck.
Yeah the car I was looking at could use some new shocks soon. I had wanted to get the H&R club sport coilover setup upon buying the car, but not sure if that was too aggressive since I don't REALLY have a feel for 996 dynamics on the edge. I had a TC Kline 500/600 coilover setup on my m3 w/ sway bars but still, 996 is a different animal all together. In the same token I don't want to have to upgrade later when i grow out of the PSS9s which IIRC use progressive springs and something I always wanted to avoid for track use in the m3.
The PSS9s for the 996 use linear springs. There's a tender also, so the result is two discrete overall spring rates, before/after the shorter tender reaches full compression. Final rates are 260 front, 515 rear, (not counting the gas charge or the bump stops).
Everyone is going to have their own tollerance for what's too agressive...but FWIW my wife daily drives the 996 more than I do and likes it just fine the way it is (even when I've got the muffler bypass pipes on it).
side note...where's Paul...can't have a track thread without Paul, Ray and maybe even JimB for good measure.
