I swapped my OEM mufflers out with the GHL in about an hours time.

The only other tool I would highly recommend are deep sockets for removing/re-installing the mounting nuts/bolts.

If the GHL is anything like the Fabspeed (and in terms of install, it should be...), I bought some jack stands and a jack from Kragen and used the standard jack points to jack the car up (or search the archives with key words something like "996 jack points" for really detailed explainations on where to jack the car).

Use the stock jack point to lift the car and place the jack stands on the rear suspension crossmember at the suspension piviot point or where the bolt goes through the cross member and suspension arm.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Just ordered GHL Exhaust and was looking to try and install it myself. What tools will I need to make sure I get it right the first time? Any suggestions on the best way to jack or raise the car up?
Thanks in advance,
Rio
Hi Rio,
If the GHL is anything like the Fabspeed (and in terms of install, it should be...), I bought some jack stands and a jack from Kragen and used the standard jack points to jack the car up (or search the archives with key words something like "996 jack points" for really detailed explainations on where to jack the car).
The only other tool I would highly recommend are deep sockets for removing/re-installing the mounting nuts/bolts. You won't be able to get a wrench in there and my standard socket set was not deep enough. Luckily I had a neighbor who was, one, curious and, two, had a set of deep sockets.
Good luck.
There is a great DIY somewhere on this list that has photos and directions, do a search, I used it when i installed mine. PM at

if you need more info. It's not that hard at all.
I swapped my OEM mufflers out with the GHL in about an hours time. Three nuts is all it takes to remove the old system (two that hold the muffler to the bracket and one that holds the tip to the muffler...on each side) The biggest problem was getting the old heat tempered nuts off of the old mufflers. I would rate this project as a 1 or 2 on a scale of 1 -10. Go for it...and good luck.
Rozilla, an Email has been sent with the link to the instruction on Rennlist. You do need a floor jack and jack stands. Use the stock jack point to lift the car and place the jack stands on the rear suspension crossmember at the suspension piviot point or where the bolt goes through the cross member and suspension arm. Use some WD 40 on the bolts at least one hour before trying to remove them.
No big deal. 2 hrs max .
jack up one side of the car. put in that jack stand, remove the wheel, exchange exhausts... just becarefull not to over tighten the bolt connecting the exhaust to the cat. then the other side.
( I don't like to jack up all four wheels or even two ! here in earthquake prone California anything can happen :-)
just kepp in mind that there is a few hundred miles breakin period and It take about 30 sec- 1 minute in the morning for the exhaust to warm up and sound normal.
good luck.
