Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

Ok this is not the problem i avoid the wood more or less and run over it with my front tire........No worrys no damage.Ok so all is well, i look down at the tach and it reads 0 rpm...everything elses works fine.just no rpm reading. POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey Tom No i havent done that yet, i was waiting for the right gauges, the ones i got ended up being in MPH, and living in Canada ours are in KMS....so i have new ones coming. but i must say you dont miss a thing!

POST 4Original post

Do 996's have electric or mechanical tachs? the 2x4 may have hit the cable/wire relay under the car. Good luck Chris

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hey another thing if Porsche has to replace the cluster, do i loose the OD readings???

POST 6Original post

you wish they will program it back to original numbers for you. also, the DME chip stores your real mileage.

POST 7Original post

Yes kilrgt, You do loose your odometer readings.(well I'm 95% sure) DME does not store mileage, my 2001 Boxster S cluster was replaced and the dealer called me to ask if I knew what the mileage was when I brought it in for service because the service writer didn't enter it on the paper work. I asked "isn't it stored in the computer" they said no.

POST 8Original post

The mileage is stored in the instrument cluster unless something has changed very recently. This is a used 996 cluster I bought off ebay several years ago plugged into my Boxster which then had over 40,000 miles. I wanted the 2 extra guages. You can see the 996 cluster displays 990 miles when my cars had over 40k We also plugged in a new new style cluster in a used 2003 and the new cluster displayed 0. Mileage is not stored in the DME, just engine operating hours.

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post
