Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
It looks neat -- definitely a clean install with no wires dangling -- but I can just see myself knocking the iPod off the cradle with my elbow while doing some aggressive shifting.

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

anyone know more about this?
looks like someone has done it on an 03 model (note the CDR-23)?
is it a real solution or just another hardwired FM modulator...

Moogle, your pics are depict a '02 Boxster even though it looks like it has a CDR-23. Might be the traffic-pro or something like that . They do have an '03 turbo in the website, it has an aftermarket Alpine on it, so they must have re-wired the whole car. Also Alpine has a few i-pod friendly stereos on offer.
im pretty sure that car is an 03 or after.
it has a
glovebox
CDR-23 (yes it is a CDR-23)
horizontal cupholders above radio
these are all >03 ONLY features.
end of story, they probably used an FM modulator.
While the iPod holder looks slick, that location does not work very well for scrolling and other functions. Moogle is probabby right about the FM modulator. I prefer iPod docking in more stealth locations like the storage cubby above the batwing--the billet aluminum facia is a bit "bling" IMO....
actually i stopped listening to music in my cars about 2 months ago. its a whole new world. for the last few years, i always had a CD going or the iPod / iTrip playing.
its a whole new experience to hear every little rattle, ding, engine rev, (especially in the GT3)
still gets me a little anxious when i see a potentially real (non FM modulation) solution... but for the last 3 years, every time its been shot down in one way or another.
time to roll down the windows and hear that engine a little better
