Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suggestion
If the plastic window bothers you replace the top with the aftermarket version that has glass.
Leading evidence: 'Replace top' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace top' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So my buddy is on the list to get a new turbo convertible (poor him!) and he is willing to sell me his 2000 C4 Cab that he bought new for ~$110k for $30k.
It is silver with every possible option, including all leather, nav, upgraded sound pkg, premium wheels and ~70k miles on it. No hard top. He has had no problems with it and never tracked it.
What are the going prices for these?? Is this a good deal?
If I went for it, I would need to sell my 88 911 Cab and make this my daily driver ...
Any thoughts?
thanks in advance and happy new year!
I paid 45,000 for my C4 cab 3 months ago with 29,000 miles on it. It was higer than it should have been but it had all service done and all records, hard top brand new tires and was immaculate. Your deal sounds good as long as the service has been done. I would still take it in for a mechanic to check it.

not bad at all. Yes, you should still get a PPI. I haven't seen any cars go for under 30k unless they are fastly approaching 100K miles. This car sounds like it was ultra expensive at the time of purchase with all the goodies. You have any pictures you can post?

Thanks all. I will check out Excellence Mag and get a PPI. I know he has all the service records since he has always had it serviced at his local dealership.
If all goes well, I will be switching to this board!
Sounds like a good deal. To help you frame it in, try to find out what a dealer would give on a trade for the car. It is always nice to know what the bottom line is if you have to get out of it in a hurry.
I think its a ok deal if the PPI checks out. Its a Buyer Market right now. You may find a better deal, depends on how much patience you have. But if you like the Car and you want it, a grand or two isnt much on the grand scale of things...Enjoy!
Whatever you do don't test drive a 997 cab. Then you'll never consider a 2000 996 Cab. I assume that it still has the plastic rear window? I understand the 996 cabs are fairly creaky. Lot of that stuff was fixed in the 997s. Perhaps you could be more serious with a 2005 Carrera Cabrio. They're coming down in price and lots of issues from the 996s were resolved.
I own a 2000 C4 CAB and about the only thing you said that is correct is the plastic window. I have no creaks, rattles or anything else and I actually get to drive my Porsche here in Germany so although I respect your opinion I think it is wrong. On the original topic $30,000 sounds like a great price but the PPI as everyone has said is a must. If the plastic window bothers you replace the top with the aftermarket version that has glass. If you want a hard top just watch eBay and you will find one in your color for not too much money.
Best of Luck!
I went in and cleaned up my inbox...it was overflowing so you couldn't post a message. I'll be there tonite....but do I have to park away from the group???

I use to have an '86...similar to your '88. You will love the 996 for a daily driver. I have owned 944's, 986's, 911's, and 993's and my 2000 996 is the first one that truly has the best of both worlds when it comes to daily driving and being a true sports car. Buy it...you won't regret it.
Good luck.
I have an 87 cab slant....then I bought a 99 996...and ended up driving it most of the time. Although each has its own personality, the marriage of newer and more innovative technology and comfort does have its rewards. You'll love the 996. After mine burned and I bought an 02 TT, I still miss the nimbleness of the 2900 pound 3.4L 996. Go for it....you won't be sorry.

Thanks all for your suggestions. A quick update.....
I am getting a PPI done on it later this week, assuming it checks out, he has agreed to sell it to me for 30k. I also found out that it does have a hard top ... I had just never seen it since he has never used it, so it is brand new!
Now I just need to put my '88 on the market ...
Looking forward to being a part of the 996 group!
I may be a little late with this but........
I think $30k is WAY too much for that car. Should be around $26k. I have been looking for the past 2 months for at 996s and think this is what your friend's car should go for. I just bought one in mint condition with 80k on it for $24k. Probably paid $1000 more than I should have but it was in Seal Grey and I couldn't many in that color.
HunkerBill, Based on your other posts, I believe you just bought a 2000 C2 coupe. The one I am buying is a 2000 C4 Cab with (what I found out later) a brand new hard top. I feel comfortable that based on that and the fact I know this guy well and how he baby's his cars, I got a fair deal.
Thanks for your data point.
