This is not a probability of success.

Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

So a dealer is selling a 996 C4S with PSE that the new owner wants switched to standard exhaust. I offer mine for the swap as long as it doesn't cost me. The dealer is very interested (perhaps it is difficult to source an 02-04 C4S standard exhaust) but says that they won't be able to do the electronic switch with it. He says it requires a new wiring harness, etc., so if we do the deal, it would not be switchable - always on PSE.
This is my daily driver - would I regret having the PSE "on" all the time?
Or should I take the deal and get "free" PSE???
You can always pick up a set of normal cans for free from other members here that upgraded theirs to PSE should you decide to switch back. No brainer, take the PSE!
Thanks for the quick responses, guys. That's one great reason I'm a member!
I've heard a lot of good, not much bad about the PSE, and the price on this is right- FREE and the dealer will do the labor for nothing.
Not knowing a whole lot about this topic, would the PSE swap just replace the mufflers and tips, or would the catalysts and everything else swap out with it?
Pull the trigger, FREE PSE, Yes!!
If you happen not like it, 99% chance this is not the case, you can buy cheap stock mufflers (craigslist, Rennlist, etc...) and sell the PSE, to me off course
and be way ahead $$ wise.
As a matter of fact, to you, my very low mileage mufflers would be free, yes, free
It's a no loose situation, either you will be supper happy or will
PSE replaces only the mufflers. Tips, cats, all others stay in.
Man, free?? I paid over a grand for mine, and I self installed it. I have it "on" all the time, no need for the switches.
Only issue is that C4S mufflers are different from standard Carrera, so if I want to go back I would need to find C4S ones. Not hard to find?
In any case, I'm sure I'll love the PSE. Called the dealer and told 'em to set it up. Waiting to hear back on when they'll do it.
Who told you the mufflers were different?
If I am not mistaken, ALL mufflers are the same from 2000 on. The only muffler that is different is the 1999 muffler. Hopefully somebody can confirm.
Fairy tales, urban legends. The 3.6L C4S mufflers are the same as any 3.6L Porsche muffler. If I'm wrong, I'll send you my OEM C4S mufflers for free, shipping included.
Take the darn deal already!
As far as the mufflers go I have never heard of that either. As far as I know is either 3.4l or 3.6l mufflers (accordions on 3.6) on 996 C2 or C4, but I am still a bit new to P-cars.
I dop believe it will work out for you. Most seem to think PSE is the best sound to be had, hope this is the case for you as well.

Already called the guy today to let him know I want the deal. He's confirming that he'll be able to get it done and when.
He's the one that told me that the C4S's mufflers were different - Hell if I know if that's right or wrong - do the tips for both NB and WB line up the same since the C4S is a widebody? I don't claim to know the answer, but I'd sooner trust the experts on RL than anyone at the dealer, so....
I'll let you guys know if the guy goes through or reneg's.
