Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
My tuner would strap her to the AWD dyno and do run after runwhile adjusting the ECU fom his laptop.
Leading evidence: 'Adjust ecu fom his laptop' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Adjust ecu fom his laptop' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Does anyone make a chip that will increase the responsiveness of the E-gas (similar to The Shark Chip for E46 M3) ?
I have a 40th Anniversary, and I don't like how the E-gas reacts when I blip the throttle.
TIA,
Matt
Hi Matt:
Yes, indeed.
These cars are somewhat frustrating for those used to cable-throttle actuated cars.
GIAC offers a chip that improves the lazy throttle response of these E-gas cars and add more mid-range torque.
Electronic potentiometer inputs to the throttle body related to positioning vs. a cable mechanically controlling throttle position directly from the gas pedal.
Tim:
"E-gas" is short for Electronic Throttle. Another term is Drive-by-wire.
All this means is that the gas pedal is not connected to the throttle by a cable anylonger. The gas pedal contains a potentiometer and that alters a voltage to the ECU (DME) that commands the throttle to open.
In short, its the software that determines how quickly the throttle opens or not,....
A good chip alters that function (among others) to actuate the throttle much quicker and better simulate the older cable-actuated throttles.
Verstehen sie?
Is the Cayenne "package" the same as the 996's (w adaptive driving)?
Is that what they're doing with the Cayennes? The hesitation has been addressed by reprograming the DME (at the dealer) & some is adaptive driving (recurring after programming).
No egas on my 99, I prefer not to have it.
Actually there is no "chip" that can be replaced as was the case for the earlier
'90s & late '80s vehicles. Now, all ECMs MUST be flash-reprogrammed which usually
requires removal of the DME unit and a shipment of it. The Porsche dealers obviously
can re-flash the DMEs in the vehicle using the PST2 tester, e.g. for diveability
upgrades. Also, some shops may have access to equipment to re-flash the DME
in the car, but this capability/option is very limited.
Re-flashing the DME by non-Porsche sources will result in a voided
warranty once a Porsche dealer determines that this occurred.
This will be the case not only for DME problems, but also for most/any
engine problem. Once the dealer discovers modifications, he now has
"discretion" about warranty repairs.
Every chip I have every come to research says that the reflash is undetectable
by the dealers. I recently just bought MY-00 996 for my 30th bday. I tuned a 04 STi to 400 WHP with enough mods to buy a 997TT
. My Suby was run on Ecutek tuning software. My tuner would strap her to the AWD dyno and do run after runwhile adjusting the ECU fom his laptop.
Here's my question. Can we only flash our 996 ECUs? Is a software package avaible for us to tune our own cars? I have been researching chips and have not decided on one yet. Which chip is the best. I plan on a intake and an exhaust. I promised my wife I wouldn't do what I have done to this Porsche....... maybe a super charger.
Hi:
AFAIK, nobody offers a flash-it-yourself-suite for the N/A 996's. One can purchase performance software but you have to either take your car in, or send the ECU to the vendor for this to be flashed.
Some software vendors (such as GIAC) offer some pretty good programming for these cars but they certainly do NOT provide the same performance improvements on N/A cars as Turbo cars.
There are two substantial paths to major performance gains but neither are cheap. The factory X-51 kit doesn't affect durability at all, but the same cannot be said for supercharger kits.
