Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Run carfax' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'best value' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Run carfax' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I'm looking to buy my first P-car in the next month or so and the 996 is probably the best value for me.

Probably a consignment car (10% to PP) and PP must call the owner for offer/sale confirmation.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

hey guys, i'm looking for a 996 aero and i found this one with all the options i like.
Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe
what do think is the fare price for this baby.
thanks
mar
beautiful car but true to form park place has got to be the most expensive p-car dealership i've seen on the west coast. beautiful, BEAUTIFUL car but $48995?!!?!? that's insane +++
I would think that car might be worth in the low (40-42) forties at most. Just for reference, last September I bought a similarly equipped MY99 car, but without the aero pacakge. I would rate my car as in excellent condition, and I am an **** nut about car care. My car has the full carbon package(steering wheel, shifter,e-brake and door thresholds), sport seats with body color backs, sport suspension and chassis, ect. Also, it had 30k miles with a PPI, new front brakes, 30k service and new tires paid for by the seller at time of sale. Everything said and done, I paid $31,000 for the car. I do not think that the aero package is worth $18k! Now in fairness, I was recently offered $37,500 by a Porsche dealer for my car on trade, so maybe I just got a really great deal.
If it helps you out any i just purchased a car on the west coast nearly identical minus the 19's for $38K....take the 19's off of that car and put sport designs on it and it's scarry how similar the cars would be.
Andy
Yes, I would open with an offer of $36k but not go higher than $38k. Probably a consignment car (10% to PP) and PP must call the owner for offer/sale confirmation.
Considering that a dealer just offered me $37,500 for mine as a trade-in. He told me that he would sell my car on their lot Porsche CPO'd at between $40k and $42k easy, that is why he would give me $37,500. Who knows. The market on MY99 cars is all over the board right now. That to me indicates that they may have seen the better part of their depreciation and may hold their value fairly well for the next several years. The 02-05 cars are the cars getting ready to take the largest depreciation hit over the next two years in my opinion.
If everything is right, that car will bring an easy $42k or higher. Sandoval sold his for $45k or $46k, I think. That car has some nice features! I'd start at $38k and and see where they go.
I've done some extensive research on the 99-01 996's recently (just bought a '00 coupe a few weeks ago) and in my opinion it is over priced by about $10K. I have seen very similar cars (even w/ the Aero) go for high 30's. If you paid low $40's, you wouldn't be getting ripped off but I wouldn't consider it a steal either.
good luck.
I'd pay as much as 40k for that car, and it's exactily what I am looking for. But it's too far away for me, and I am working a deal on one just like it with a private seller.
i run a carfax on the car. its been regularly serviced and seems like it has no accidents (reported accidents anyways). 2 previous owners, 1st was a corporate lease and the second was also a lease....both in los angeles area. it was auctioned off after the 2nd owner's lease expired. 5 days later, the car was offered for sale by the current dealer.....so its been on thier floor for 11 days today.
i called the dealer and offered 42k.......nice guy, but he basicaly said i have to come up with a bigger number closer to the asking price. i said i'm very interested and i really like the car, but that's the max i will pay. i left him my number and ask him to keep me posted. i think they are not too eager to go down on the price since they only got the car 11 days ago.
i know there's alot of 1999 996 aero out there in the hi 30's but its so hard to find one equiped with LSD, sport seats, and sport chassis options
i'm so tempted to offer 44k, but i think i'll wait for now.
thanks for the replys
Sit tight for a couple of days anyway. I do not think they will get alot of action at their asking price. You do not want to seem too eager. They will never work with you if they think you are in love with the car. I agree that car has some nice options, but do not get too anxious. The $42k was a very fair offer on that car. If they bought the car at auction, they likely paid between $35k-$38k. With the car being so fresh on their lot, they are just looking to hit the home run with it.
MOST Wa dealerships are overpriced on MOST automobiles. With Microsoft in town, it's a flea market and they go to town. I live in WA and bought my car from St. Louis... go figure.
42k is fair offer. I'll suggest you wait for couple days and walk in to the dealership negotiate the price. some time face to face is way better then over phone. show up around their closing time and put them under the pressure of "do it today". =)
Rizza Porsche in the Chicage area has a NEW '04 Midnight Blue Aero coupe for sale - asking 67K,msrp 84K, I don't know what it would take to actually buy it. I realize that might be out of your price range but it is a beatuful car - I can't seem to rationalize it for myself.....
I saw the same car there on Saturday inside their building. The sales guy (Monte) told me they just got the car four days ago from an auction in California.
In looking at it briefly, it is near perfect inside and out. When visiting, I noticed all their P-cars were in the $45k-$49k range (early 996), regardless of year or mileage until you start looking at the '02 or newer. Then the price goes up to the mid-50's.
I hope it works out for you. I'm looking to buy my first P-car in the next month or so and the 996 is probably the best value for me.
I'm also considering the newer M3, but that is off-topic for this discussion. If anyone has comments or experience in comparing the two, I would appreciate hearing from you.
Thank you,
Brad
hi brad, thanks for the info regarding the red 996 at parkplace. i didn't end up getting it. we just didn't agree on the price. i wonder how much it sold for? i'm a bit surprised how fast it got sold considering the high list price...but then again it had all the desirable options.
i found another one that i like and this time the price is right for me. its not loaded wih performance options like the red car, but its has more luxury options and i like the int/ext color combination better. i hope it all works out this time.

good luck with your car shopping. you can't go wrong with the e46 m3 or a 996. both great cars.

Sharp car, I hope it works out. The one thing I can't believe is the cost of insurance between the 996 and the M3. Looking at an '02 for example, getting a 996 adds NO COST to my premium, but the M3 would increase the 6 month premium by $437.
