FYI....the BoxsterS uses the 996 calipers and they are painted red.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I am thinking about painting my brake calipers. My first thought was guards redvery typical color and it would match the exterior. After some more thought, one of the things I like about the silver/black cars with red calipers is the way they stand out. So now Im thinking about painting mine YELLOW. Will that look totally rice and or poser or will it stand out and look good? I saw a guards red 997 GT3 in the recent issue of Excellence that had the PCCB yellow brakes and it looked great. Thats what kind of gave me the idea...
So here are the choices:
Yellow
Red
Or stay w/ black
Thanks
Mark
Yellow = poser
Red = color-matched poser
Black = original, nice contrast
I prefer black, but you should paint them whatever color makes you happy and ignore the rest of us.
why is yellow a poser Doug?? I got a turbo bumper in the front and back...I am not pretending to have a turbo...but like the look better.....so I am a poser?? Also have red calipers.....Porsches are already very understaded
dont sweat it.....there are some people that think the "traditional" Porsche look is the only correct one....Just bring up 19" wheels on a 996...lol....I'd go for yellow....
I say paint them any color you like it is your car. If you like yellow, go for it. Go for hot day glow pink if you really want to stand out. lol hahahahaha.
You can order the calipers in black OR red so it is not poser. Yellow is indicative of the PCCB brakes which is why I imagine some would call it poser. FYI....the BoxsterS uses the 996 calipers and they are painted red. Makes no sense that Porsche would paint the calipers black on these fantastic brembo calipers that are traditionaly red. I saw so with what you like. I ordered the factory calipers in red on my 996C2CAB and they look fantastic against the arena red color.
As others have suggested, do what YOU like. I personally like black. I sorta think that red and yellow are just a "hey look, aren't my brakes neat" kind of deal. Unless of course you have a real *** kicker (gt, gt2, gt3, turbo and others) Just my 2 cents...and nothing more.
Black is the OE color on all standard models, red is for TTs and also the color of your car, yellow is the high $ ceramic that you don't want to pretend to be, so the logical choice and most tasteful, all things considered would be silver. Silver is used for C4 OEMs as well and looks great especially with a red car.
You could get a 993 C2S from the factory with yellow calipers. I don't think the C2S had ceramic composite calipers.
Shame on Porsche for pretending to have something they didn't have on the car.
this was where I looked before I painted my calipers:

I am very happy with how they came out. I posted before, during, and after pictures.
The calipers are still perfect. No flaking or fading. Worst case you are out $40 and 4 hours of your time. As you can see from my before pics, my clear coat was chipping pretty bad, so i stripped them and started fresh.
Nicolaas - for the same reason everyone already stated. I would avoid yellow unless you're upgrading to PCCB. Just my opinion. Everyone should do whatever makes them happy, regardless of others opinions.
