The scissor lift will make 996 belly pans hard to remove for replacing early car fuel filters and also make it hard to pull just the trans if you are replacing IMS, RMS, clutch etc....

No and I use hocky pucks (extra 1") to cushion the metal to metal contact on the jack points.

I have used my MaxJax for our Mercedes ML350, ~4800lbs, many times with no problem.

Replacing the exhaust on a non-Porsche for example.
These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

This time I'm mounting the pump unit on the wall and using 90 and 45 degree NPT adapters to run one line up the side of the wall, across the ceiling, and down to the column on the opposite side of the pump.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hmmmm, talk about a "copy"...
I like that the hydraulic hookups from the pump are low to the ground. I've been installing my MaxJax this week (for the 3rd time -- different garage each time) and hate how the hydraulic lines come out straight instead of at a right angle. This time I'm mounting the pump unit on the wall and using 90 and 45 degree NPT adapters to run one line up the side of the wall, across the ceiling, and down to the column on the opposite side of the pump.
Someone needs to tell them to fire their web "designer" as the myspace look (thankfully) died some time ago.
Am I missing something here, cause this looks like a seriously bad idea...
Are those pylons really not attached to the floor? That picture they have on the page looks like one good bump to the front or rear of the car is going to make for a very bad day...
those 2 post lift always look scary to me... only holdon on a few bolt at the base, on a 2 inch plate...
I think I prefer to work under the jacks, they look more sturdy..
I know this is safe but it always look a bit magic to me ..
If you install them properly they are totally safe.
My friend has a MaxJax lift like the one above.
We have had an 2012 Mustang, my 1986 944, 2010 WRX, 2007 335xi, and many other cars on the lift. The lift it totally sturdy.
We even lifted up the rear of an E60 M5 with one side on the lift a couple times with no problems.
I have used my MaxJax for our Mercedes ML350, ~4800lbs, many times with no problem. Look at what is holding the twin post lifts to the floor at your favorite shop.
I've thought about a MaxJaxx at one point but having both a low ceiling garage and one that has a lack of storage and width, I was looking into one of the Gregg Smith scissor lifts that can tuck away into the floor and not take up any more floor space. This seems to be somewhat popular in the 993 crowd. In addition, I thought about the fact that I can just wheel this out of the garage and work on the car out in the driveway in the summer months. Nice breeze and plenty of elbow room.
I would probably do something like this so when it's in the down position, it is completely out of the way. I would however angle the back like a ramp so I can pull this out if I wanted to work outside in my driveway with it.
It allows you to also drop the entire engine/tranny combo with a simple crossbar modification.

Just another alternative for people in a similiar space-restricted situation like me.
Yeah I thought about that too but then realized how many times I really replace an exhaust and if I do, I usually have someone else do it for non Porsche models. This and maybe the fuel filter and shift assembly are the only things I can think off, off the top of my head that might be restricted by a lift like this.
I use the EZCarlift. Unrestricted access to the under body panels, portable, fairly inexpensive and only needs a 8A drill to operate. Also no locking dogs to worry about, anywhere your stop is safe. Only lifts 26" though.
Does the scissor lift have a failsafe? It looks stable but does it lock? Im considering maxjax but yours is much less. Does it allow access to the power steering unit?
I'm in the market for one of these jacks. I like the MaxJack type(which I was planning on purchasing from Costco); however, the scissor type is very portable.
I have a question about the Maxjack type, if I drill the holes in multiple garages or gargage locations does that make it almost as portable as the scissor type?
yes it does, you just need more *Wejit floor anchors. The scissor lift will make 996 belly pans hard to remove for replacing early car fuel filters and also make it hard to pull just the trans if you are replacing IMS, RMS, clutch etc....

Portable is relative. I wouldn't want to go moving mine every other day because they're not lightweights. But they are definitely moveable. And unlike scissor jacks, you can use them to work on exhaust, driveshafts, remove engines, etc.
There is a member here or on 6speed that has recently moved his max jaxx jack from his fathers place iirc(Doug KC?)
As for the parts mentioned above is really a moot point if all you're lifting and working on is your 996.
You have to be careful when buying lifts with our P-cars, especially if they are lowered, some arms just arent low enough. I know when I was buying lifts for my shop, I went with Ammco originally. with the lift pads and no spacers they fit under my car, but the arms beyond the pads were a little to thick and would crush my sideskirts. I would have to drive onto blocks before I could get arms under the car properly. When I had to buy a couple more lifts I went with this
Rotary Lift
It was pretty expensive, but it is laser guided so you are always centered, has motion detectors so you know how far forward or back to move, its arms fit under the car, it is the fastest lift for raising or dropping a car and has a batterypack so it can be used in a power outage. All features are really nice to have, though not really necessary for personal use when fully accessorized
No and I use hocky pucks (extra 1") to cushion the metal to metal contact on the jack points. Car is stock height. Worst case drive up on a couple short 2x8 to get clearance.
No problems with my 996 or my other P-cars. My lowered 3-series, however, is too low. I've mastered the practice of pulling up on the BMW's fender while kicking the MaxJax arms into place. You only need a couple tenths of an inch.
