Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

12 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Based on the recent unfortunate experiences of others that have lost their only key, etc. (your pain is not on vain), I was inspired to get a spare. Picked up the factory transponder head (with code tag) from Sunset Porsche for $99 and this amazing place in the UK offers a blade cut per a reasonable digital photo for $20including postage delivered to your US address. Arrived in 4 days including a weekend. Ebay item 130393748195. Already checked for fit, works fine in the switch. Just need to have programming done (ouch...that's gonna leave a mark).

POST 2Original post

Good for you! Let us know how the remaining 1/3 of the process goes.

POST 3Original post

POST 4Original post

OOPS!!!! : Mark, welcome to Rennlist. It is customery for Newbies to tell us a little about their car and to post pics. So consider this next senence as your "Newbie Initiation." Come on Newbie, post the @#$%^&* pics! Man, that felt good! Thanks Maurice! Again, welcome to Rennlist.

POST 5Original post

I'm one of those guys that got my car with only 1 key and I'm terrified. I look forward to the end of your story.

POST 6Original post

just got my car, it came with three keys! two masters with remote and a spare/valet

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Just spoke with the service rep at the local dealer. He said the cost of programming the car to the new key is $100 & would take about 45 minutes "assuming everything communicates properly." So...looks like the second key will net out at about $225; not sure how that compares to other alternatives.

POST 9Original post

I think at $225 for the transmitter-blade and programming you are doing very good. Mine cost $200, $100 for the transmitter (Sunset Porsche) and $100 for the programming (Paul Miller Porsche in NJ) I already had the blade from the failed key. Tanner2305 get another key NOW!

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Epilogue: Presented car ('04 C2), working key & new key to Porsche Dealer service department. Service Rep. logged into Porsche site and entered the vin & retrieved what looked like about 8 codes, which he printed and turned over to service tech.. The tech used a device about the size and double the thickness of a laptop with a seperate keyboard. He first seemed to be confirming or reprogramming the working key, then asked if there were any other working keys because those would be disabled if he didn't have them then. He then proceeded to program the car to the new key using first about three of the codes from the printout and finally the number from the key tag beneath the bar code at the last screen. Took about 30 minutes start to finish - cost as quoted $100. So, entire project came it at amt. expected - easily worth the peace of mind.

POST 11Original post

With whom at Sunset did you talk, I just got a quote for $147 for the transponder head from Sunset and Barrier here in Seattle wants $220

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Directly from the invoice: Sunset Imports, Beaverton, OR. - Part no. 996-637-244-42 - Key Head - $99.51 (it also shows a list price of $147.10) - Slsm. (salesman?) 133. I believe his name is Phil. Same guy (very patient and helpful) that always seems to answer when I've called and asked to be connected with Porsche parts. Hope this is helpful & good luck.
