Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.
Discussions that suspect a cause

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Suspected cause
If the wipers are working normally otherwise, then it's probably the potentiostat.
Leading evidence: 'potentiostat' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'potentiostat' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Set speed i will get one wipe' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

When I turn the dial to set the speed I will get one wipe then nothing.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Its been raining like crazy here (Vienna, Austria) for the last month. That made me realize the interval wiper on my 02 C4S is not working properly. When I pull the wiper lever down the blades wipe once then nothing happens at all. maybe one out of ten times the interval wiper will work correctly. When I turn the dial to set the speed I will get one wipe then nothing. Anybody experienced this problem? - please help!
Thank you,
Reinhard
Could be dirty contacts from years of build up from a previous owner never driving the car in the rain. Try a lot of actions on the lever and dial and maybe that will wear of a possible coating that grew on the contacts.
If the wipers are working normally otherwise, then it's probably the potentiostat.
It's an inexpensive part that takes 10 mins to change out. It did mine earlier this year and regretted having not done it sooner.
Thank you ! Will swap the two parts with friend. How to remove potentostat. I guess I need to take off the u shaped cover of the Navi system. How will it come off?
Reinhard
remove the horseshoe by inserting a plastic spatula under the bottom corner and working your way up the side until you meet resistance - lever the piece out from the console.
The potentiostat is easily removed by squeezing the levers on the back side together and pushing it out the front of the horseshoe.
I don't remember the part being that expensive... may $40 at most and it takes only a few minutes to change.
Hi Wellard, I have exactly the same issue as Reinhard's. Tried looking up 'potentiostat' in a few parts websites to no result
Is there another name and/or part no. for it? Thanks beforehand
Turns out I had kicked the wiper relay for the intermittent function slightly out of the relay support bracket. Plugged it back in and everything was fine.
Glad to help - it took me 4 years to get around to doing a 10 minute job and I regret waiting so long for such an easy job... It's so nice to have working wipers again.
Mine weren't working either, but after reading the manual I determined that they won't work unless the car is started w/ the stalk in the '0' position. Mine had always been started in the '3' position for the intermittent wipers. Works like a charm - what a nice feature during those afternoon thunderstorms.
