Yesterday I removed the headlights, installed chrome covered amber bulbs in them for the turn signals, installed the smoked side markers with chrome coated bulbs, and removed the bumper to clean all the crap out of my radiators/condensors.

Then I installed a new strut for the engine lid(tired of getting hit in the head).

I'll be ahead with my ambered 996 as the mad rush begins to dump the cheesy grey sides that all the sheeple mindlessly replaced because they were told to do so and going back for the classic, bold German look!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As I have received plenty of "advice" about my orange side marker transgression, I thought I would provide proof that I do listen!.
Before and after pics attached...
do YOU like it?
I think it looks better
have you thought about any black accents n side... maybe floor mats? If so I have a BRAND NEW set of black (rear only) mats (FS CHEAP!) that you could give a try
To be honest, didn't really know what the big deal was until I took the picture. It really is a very EASY improvement.
...hadn't actually thought about black mats. Might set off the boxster red
PM sent.
Thanks, I had been looking for the right car for about 2 years when this one popped up.
...actually, that's next on the list. Looking at the Bilstein PSS10
Seems easy enough!
Very nice, it’s the subtle things that make the biggest difference. Next is professionally tinted windows, you will be amazed at what a difference it makes. Both in interior temps and aesthetics!
O.K., but not done yet...I still see amber from the bulb...should switch out to Stealth Bulbs...
see...
would also change out the egg yoke amber bulbs on front to blue/clear
see difference
To finish it off you need to get silverized bulbs for those side markers (yes, you can see the amber through the plastic...) I got the clear third brake light for Christmas (sometimes my wife gets it...) and I really do like the way they came out... looks much cleaner on our silver cars!

Rudy
+1 for the bulbs... a must do IMO
hey Fly, on your headlights is that all you changed (the blinker bulb) or is there an amerectomy operation like the MKI lights?
OK, guys, I'll bite. Where do I go to get the bulbs for replacement on the side markers and turn signals? I think I like the smoke colored cyclops brake light, too.
Hints/guidance is greatly appreciated.
Still gotta save up for the PSS10's as well!
so I bought mine at xenonmods.com - now there have been a couple people say they had less than great service recently. I found them to be very good....You can always find another source....
I talked on the phone and they set me up with all the bulbs for the car.... it cost about $35? (cant remember) well over a year ago and I have not had any issues with them.... The ones I bought are the silver coated ones
LINK
there is an email address you can contact them if you descide to go with them I would love to hear how you were treated, if not, please post who you found as a good sorce for us to promote
I've fallen victim to the peer pressure (ok, it was actually the pics of the clear lenses and coated bulbs).
Both the lenses and coated bulbs are in my garage waiting for installation.
They really do look great on a silver car.
Hell, I even bought coated bulbs for the headlight and taillight signals.
I yield, the pumpkins do look terrible.
am I the only one that thinks the ambers look ok? nevertheless, I still just purchased the smokes and will pick them up later today. do they smokes come OEM on a certain model or something?
I gotta get around to doing this...I keep forgetting!
Anyway speaking of lights I had to replace my drivers side turn signal lamp yesterday. Once again I'm impressed by the ease of doing maintenance on this vehicle. Took me maybe two minutes to git 'er done!
Nice, I like those wheels!
Tough to see on the Crackberry, I will look more when I get time on the PC
I know its tough to change them, yours look good too, but they look good in smoke too. Thing is, it is a 10 second mod, so you can always go back, AND the smoked ones can be re-sold if you don't like them (un-like the OEM ambers)
I am about to get my smokes in 5 mins, does anyone have any instructions on how to change them out, or is it just removing a screw and sliding it out like on most cars?
they are held in place by a spring clip, just pull on the trailing edge and they pop out, then slide the assy towards the rear of the car about 3/8" of so and the front will come out.
bulb is twist and pop out... reverse for assy
so which bulbs do you guys get for the side markers, and turn signals? right now there are some clear ones on my side markers, but they look like yellow light at night and it clashes with the HId headlights.
Concepts like "original" and "preservation" mean a lot to me. People who restore their Porsches try to maintain the originality of their cars, or return them to the way they came from the factory.
I'm in favor of ambers.
Don't want to offend, but, what EXACTLY is original - is it your definition? You want an original US version, or, an original European version? Euro versions came standard w/ the smoked sidemarkers - came from the "factory" that way. What is standard ride height, Euro or American? The car is made in Europe, so, maybe the purist would more likely appreciate that.
By the way, the smoke colored sidemarker is now standard (or original if you will) on the 2010's.
In the context of my previous post, my reference to the term "original" is the fitment and specification of the car as delivered to the USA from the Porsche factory. Naturally, the fitment and specification of new cars in other countries may vary, but my frame of reference is this country.
No offense taken, by the way.
I am all for the ambers, I think I started this by saying am I the only one that likes the ambers and then a day later switched them out to smokes. That bieng said, the both look great, but since my car is almost 10 years old, I think the smokes actually make it look newer in a way. And I like fooling regular people into thinking my car is spanking new. But I also love making my cars how they are OEM from the country of origin, so smokes it is! Sorry amber guys... I guess I'm a Benedict Arnold. Haha
Amber will be back in style one of these decades!
I'll be ahead with my ambered 996 as the mad rush begins to dump the cheesy grey sides that all the sheeple mindlessly replaced because they were told to do so and going back for the classic, bold German look!
Or if nothing else, the savings, compounded, will pay for my eventual 998.1 floor mats!
Well, I was a fan of keeping things factory correct but I caved. I'm glad I did.

All in all a good day and the car looks fantastic. I did all of this in a light drizzle outside. Come on sunshine!!
Where are you guys gettng the chrome bulbs from? How much. I've seen some on eBay for $8 then the stealths are on pelicanparts for $29. Is there a big difference?
I am betting that the amber guys used to own hondas, 1990 thru 2000something hondas, as the Japanese domestic market had lots of amber color for side markers...
I admit.... I owned one ONCE - I swore off the brand and have NO trouble telling everyone
"I dont care if they are the best car in the world, I will NEVER own another one"
I will post a pic so you can
C'mon Ed! I would buy an S2000 as a DD if I could fit. My Prelude was a great car.... well.... as good as any honda could be.... well.... wait, why do I want an S2000?
Off topic, would you recommend the 997 shifter setup as opposed to the B&M SSK? Have you driven both?
Thanks,
Jim
My wife (W1) gave me an ultimatum the day I came down the driveway in my used 500 Interceptor...the bike goes or I go. It wasn't an easy decision to make, I said, "can I keep the bike for one year"? She said yes...12 months almost to the day, I resold it and made a profit. So YES, I did own a HONDA, happy Tim?
So I have some images from my side marker updates. I was originally a bit skeptical. But now I realize the error of my ways. These look much better. Check pics below. Also, this is a super easy upgrade.
