Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Leading evidence: 'Use light' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Replace design as the system made more power' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suggestion
Perhaps they changed the design as the system made more power with the X design.
Replace design, i should have something definitive by tomorrow morning

I sent an email to them to find out exactly why they changed the design, I should have something definitive by tomorrow morning.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm to much of a wimp to mod this winter..... looking forward to install these along with the manual fan mod..... maybe Ill document a DIY.
My cats were dying so.... the slope gets slippery again. FVD sports cats with sensor extension (just in case). They are 200 cell, tri-metal....more info here.
http://www.fvd.de/us/en/Porsche-0/99...%29-OBD-2.html
Yep, FVD has the standard straight pipes w/ 100 cell cats on clearance, $1172; I can see where the U bend allows for some backpressure resultng in saving some mid-range torque...
me likey....
red, are the U-bends open in the center to allow for "equalization"? ( similar to an X-pipe?)
Has anyone else run these? what's the sound like, or is there any drone?
red, hurry up and install this badboy....
Its actually cheaper.... Talk to Rhonda if you are interested.
yes, they are hollow..... Ill make a sound clip once it is installed, they are going with PSE cans.
They claim 10-15hp... but Im not gonna do before/after dyno. Im bought these cause I dont want to pay $3200 for a pair of stock cats.... C'mon Porsche wake up!
Hopefully, this weekend.
Good, its even louder when someone is driving next to me. Looking forward to Hershey.
Im not sure Im gonna use them yet, I have state inspection coming up so they will not go on. After the inspection, I will put them on. They will insure that a cell will not come on since it will weaken the after cat signal.
redridge,
Can't wait for your dyno posts! Just want to clarify, the pipes are not joined in the center. The banks are separate. The large stainless hour glass section that joins the pipes is welded in for rigidity and to prevent vibration of the individual pipes. The U shape is what gain's torque in the mid range.
Hope you enjoy them by the way here is a little more about your sport cat's
pedigree, see post # 9...
Thanks,
Rhonda
gasket and clamps came with the set, not sure Ill use the clamps.... will find out this weekend.
Rhonda... they are joined together. I can see light through it. See the light shining through. Thanks for the additional info...
I know what you mean..... sorry
Red, run a wire or or a measuring tape thru there a couple times to double check. even Rhonda says they don't join, but those bends are awefully close together judging from the pic.
Red,
I was confused by your earlier post because I was told by Rhonda that the banks are separate. You could tape off the lower port of the U then shoot compressed air thru the upper port on the same side of the U...does an air stream comes out the opposite side???
I was told the same, but she is mistaken, this is an "X" pipe. Both exhaust banks are tide together. I bought this thinking I was going to get individual pipes but that is not the case.
I essential did what you did... but instead of air I used a light. Shine the light.... light shines through the opposite pipe.
Sounds like you are 100% sure on this...
...still can't believe she could have gotten such an important detail wrong...
...if this is the case should the x-pipe design be better or worst???how is it different in terms of impact on performance and sound??? Not sure if I should
or
...
Any x-pipe experts out their care to chime in???
These kind of exhausts must have been experimented with in the past 10 years on these 996's. I know that Mustang, Crown Vic, & Marauder owners (me) experienced drone due to the X-pipes and converted to H-pipes because of it.
In theory (cuz I didn't test it first hand), it allows for equalization in the exhaust banks; whether that helps with HP / TQ #'s , IDK.
Either way, the FVD, Fabspeed pipes look :blinG:
Redridge and Fly996,
I apologize for the misunderstanding, but that is the information I had from M&M. I was informed about this weeks ago when they were finalizing the design. Perhaps they changed the design as the system made more power with the X design. That is the only logical reason with their designs. Again I apologize but M&M is working on making all of our exhaust offerings for us. They are working their way from the latest 997 to the first 911's. This is a huge undertaking and unfortunately FVD Germany is not into putting as much information online as I like to so it takes a lot of emails back and forth to provide the U.S. market with all the answers.
Rest assured that any variance in design is done for the right reasons.
I sent an email to them to find out exactly why they changed the design, I should have something definitive by tomorrow morning.
Thanks,
Rhonda
Redridge and fly996,
M&M confirmed that the x pipe design is for power gains only. Not for noise cancellation. They gained another 7 hp with the x pipe design.
Thanks,
Rhonda
