Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

It was over 60 degrees and sunny here today - perfect car washing weather. It was very nice to wash the car in the driveway instead of the garage. Gotta love spring! Winter tires are still on the 996 for now... but it won't be much longer until I can put the summer rubber back on. I'm actually having the summer wheels refinished on Wednesday, and I just ordered a new set of center caps for them with the larger Porsche logo. I can't wait to get them back on... Here's a quick shot of the clean C4S, and the other "not so clean" Porsche that shares the garage:

POST 2Original post

just washed the 996 myself... also got a brake flush and final drive flush... accomplished lots today!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

You did get lots accomplished...

POST 4Original post

Dennis, Curious as to what you were quoted for wheel refinishing and what kind of shape are they in? I have a spare set of Turbo Twists that need refinishing. Thanks, Tom

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

We have a local guy who has a trailer that he brings to your location that has all the tools necessary for the refinish - grinders, sanders, paint, etc. Depending on the condition of the wheel, his charge is usually $50 - $75 per wheel. I have very minor curb rash on three of my four wheels and a scratch on the other one. I know he'll use filler on the wheel if there is a big enough defect, but he generally doesn't like to do that. I don't have any cracks, and my wheels are still easily balanced. He spot clear coats them after the repair, and it looks pretty good from what I've seen. I think they need to dry for about 24 hours after he finishes. I'll get them re-balanced before I mount them on my car.

POST 6Original post

those are some nice winter wheels..... car looks great!

Not really. Yesterday I was at the park with short pants and a Tshirt. Today, the first day of spring - 8 inches and it's still snowing. The largest amount of the season. Enjoy your spring. The first day here sucks.

POST 9Original post

Is this a toyota gas pedal incident? Good luck getting the good weather

POST 10Original post

I can't wait to get back to Dallas so I can wash my Honda!

POST 11Original post

Must be catching, washed mine yesterday as well. and still wearing winter tires, but sure felt nice to have a clean 911 again. Looking good Dennis.

POST 12Original post

Quotes source post: 7411110

Thanks Dennis! That's a pretty fair price.

POST 13 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks all. It's always nice to get the 911 cleaned up for spring! I also have to take advantage of the opportunity now - in less than a month we go to temporary housing until we move. That will suck.

POST 14Original post

you mean I could have washed instead of selling it??? looks great Dennis Tim, I want pics of the Honda "dirty" as proof you actuall drive it and not just verbally bash it

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The photos of your new car look pretty sweet Ed! I suspect there will be some serious detailing in your very near future...

POST 16Original post

LINK I just posted some "before" pics on this thread My son is jumping up an down to go for a ride????

POST 17Original post

Inspired by Dennis I washed Lorelei today... It was only 40F or so outside, but I am glad that I did it as it had been way too long. The wash revealed all the paint flaws and desperate need for a good detailing... More importantly, I was able to stop at the post office and collect the goods for the next wash and detail... As soon as it warms up, I ma going to get a case of beer and spend a weekend....

POST 18 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Nice! I used the Griot's system on mine. #2 Maching polish on an orange cutting pad, followed by Best In Show Wax on a red pad. It looks great!

POST 19Original post

Did the cleaning on Saturday - best day of the year in metro DC. A simple wax followed by Zaino All-in-One, plus Zaino leather cleaner on the seats and a simple armor all cleaning pad for the interior surfaces. Installed the black non-smoker kit - the Blackberry fits perfectly and the black actually looks good against the granite grey/small carbon kit interior.

POST 20 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The wheel repair man is here working on my wheels now. After inspecting them, his quote is $215 to refinish all four. This will include grinding and sanding as necessary, repainting the spots that he repairs, and spot clear coating. Overall, my wheels aren't in terrible shape, but each one needs some work. The first shot is the wheels waiting to get refinished. The second shot is the worst scuff I have on the front wheels. The last shot is the worst wheel by far - one of the rears. I'll post some more when the repair is complete. New center caps arrive tomorrow. BTW - not sure how much you can tell from the photos, but this set of Sumis has about 7,000 miles of use. They still look pretty good - even the rears!

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Here are the "after" photos. I'm quite pleased with the work. The first pic is the front wheel, the second pic is the rear wheel. I think they look very good.

POST 22Original post

Wow, nice improvement and the $ spent was certainly reasonable. Mine need attention and soon.

POST 23Original post

Wow that is a great bang for the buck! Looks great Dennis. Last year I had mine blasted and powder coated. Ran about $85 a wheel. BTW.....Your car looks sweet. +1 for the Sumi's.

POST 24 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks. It's lots cheaper than buying new wheels, that's for sure!

POST 26Original post

Your P-car is looking great, Dennis. Refinished wheels should set you up nicely for the summer months - happy motoring.

POST 27 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks! The wheel refinish is one of those things that makes me say "why didn't I do this sooner?".

POST 28Original post

WOW. Well done. I wish that I could find that kind of deal up here.. They want 150 a wheel for a refinishing.

POST 29 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

New center caps just arrived - I went with the newer large logo style. I think it looks cleaner.
