I need the money for track prepping my new used RS....

If my wife ever decided to change careers or move to a part time schedule, I'd go back to consulting and wearing a coat and tie again....YUCK!

In the long run, those that shoot for price first end up spending so much more trying to get it perfect again.

I'll take some better pics this weekend when Scott (SH||NC) teaches me how to use my camera
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I know, I know, it's a frickin disease. I added yet another car to the stable. This time I added a Turbo.
Specs:
2003 Turbo
Slate Grey Metallic (photos do not do it justice. Amazing in person!)
Natural Grey leather (again, amazing in person. It's really black but a nice upgrade)
Sport Techno Wheels
Baby seats for the 2 year old and 5 month old (reason I bought the TT over another GT3....back seats)
Have a few misc items I (or the dealer) am going to install this week as well:
X73
Tint
Sport pedals (aluminum with the rubber grips and Porsche script)
997 SSK
Garage door hack
Non smokers kit
Clear/Smoked side markers
Dension Gateway 500
Thinking about adding the "quad" tip for the exhaust. (SUGGESTIONS WHERE TO BUY?)
I saw it yesterday in the turbo forum and couldn't believe my eyes. What a pristine example of a Porsche. I'm having difficulty with your long list of Pcars, how will you decide which one to drive on a daily basis?
Thanks. It was a VERY VERY VERY exhausting search to find the perfect one. You'd be amazed how many people don't take care of their cars.
As far as what to drive...............
Track weekend? Spec Boxster Racecar
Sunny Day cruising with the wifey? CAB
Cruising around by myself or with my little boys? Turbo
See....wasn't that simple?
Dell, you are one determined guy! Your decisions in life have put you where you are, and IMO you are not lucky, but very good at making the right choices!
Bitchen' new ride!
Very nice Turbo!
and quite an impressive collection of P-cars I might add.
Most impressive in todays dire economic times, where everyone seems to be taking a hit, the lucky ones treading water, and a very few able to make extavagant purchases. Just curious what line of work you are in?
are they hireing? lol
Slate on black, looks familiar! I have the same combo on my 997 and LOVE it. You're right, photos do it no justice.
That's a gorgeous car with great options. Nice find. Drive it like ya stole it (and with prices as they are, I assume you did!)
Oh, and PLEASE don't tint... it's so nice as-is.
Good catch. It is open. I forgot to close it when I was looking in the front boot.
I can't take all the credit for my purchases since my wife is the major bread winner in my family now (her M.D. trumps my Ph.D. financially) as I went back to teaching instead of consulting. It allows me to have a great life and be able to play with the cars and spend time with my boys. If I'm not in class I'm working from home. The pay sucks in academics but it is VERY rewarding.

Gorgeous turbo. Congratulations. Love the color combination as slate gray is one of my favorites. More pictures and driving impressions. I was stunned at the power that a stock 02 had when I rode in a friends. The hand of god that pushes you when the turbos spool is quite intoxicating.
I probably paid more than most are paying but I had very stringent requirements about what I wanted. Had to be stock and totally unmolested with service done at the dealer (well documented indy would have worked as well) religiously. The problem is I found in my search was many Turbo owners just don't take care of their cars the way say the GT3 crowd does. I also wanted coupe, manual, and no black or silver. I'm lucky I even found one!
It's refreshing to hear that someone puts quality before price. Price for me as well, is somewhat down the list and less important than getting what you want, and a fine example. I see and hear of how inexpensive 996s have become, but looking at what's out there and the condition, reflects the pricing. There is no way I could sell my near mint 996 Cab for the prices being thrown around today.
Good catch, and enjoy!
So true Nick. While the prices for these cars are really great right now (you can get some 01's in the high 30's now) I wanted a "perfect" example and was willing to pay for it. If you want a great example in a 996 Turbo then be prepared to spend from high 40's to low 60's.
In the long run, those that shoot for price first end up spending so much more trying to get it perfect again. Just doesn't make sense to me to now get it right the first time.
THANK GOD - he's calling it a Turbo instead of a TT.
(Phil and I maintain that only Audi makes the TT, blah, blah blah)
Congratulations Dell - beautiful car.
Haven't even "driven" it yet but I'm almost positive I'll be just fine with the stock hp. I think it's something like 420 which is 40 more than my GT3.
Ed you got that right! And the absolute best decision he EVER made was chosing his mate. She is as nice as she is beautiful! What she ever saw in....... no, I won't go there, this is Dell's thread (like that ever stopped me before).
Here I am!
Hey, some of us have to actually work for a living!
I have been very patient and only asked you about it one time, and you of all people should know how hard it was for me to stop at only once!
Seriously Dell, what a sweet looking Turbo! I hope to be able to see it in persoon sometime in the future. Enjoy it in good health!
BTW, say "Hi" to your gorgeous wife for me. Just remind her that I'm the guy that
didn't
get your old mufflers! I am sure she will remember.
SHe remembers you MORE than anybody that I have met in person from RL as she refers to you as "is that Tim, the guy that you promised your mufflers that you threw away?"
Fine, I'm only going to do this one since I don't want my ugly mug breaking any mirrors or computer screens. Her? I'm proud of....Me? Not so much
This is the picture I have on my desk here in my office.
Congrats on the turbo!
I love the color and the wheels.
I have SS 50th anniv Sub (green bezel) -- new in box and never worn with all tags purchased form US AD... I think it still has protective stickers etc...
If you are serious, I would sell it... I need the money for track prepping my new used RS.... also have a well worn plat/ss yachtmaster that I would sell as well...
Wow, you're prettier than I imagined.
Your wife isn't bad either.
Congrats on the new car! - you have the Porsche sickness way more than anyone I've ever met.
Enjoy!
To be honest, I haven't really "driven" it. I'll get a full report after I flog it this weekend
Right off the bat I can say the clutch sucks (whimpy) and the exhaust is quiet as quiet can be
NCSU and DTCC
Congrats Dell.... your patience paid off. She's a beauty!.... as for the wimpy clutch, pull out the booster (helper) spring up by the clutch pedal, it will help with a better feel for the pedal.
Congrats on the beautiful turbo! I just pointed out to my wife that I must be simple and practical because I have only one Porsche... I really love my Targa but I sometimes fantasize about driving a turbo. It isn't much by any standard, but back in my 20's the 2.0 turbo on my Saab 900 gave a nice boost... Can only imagine what the extra 100 HP and the boost would feel like...
Enjoy the car!
Lawrence
uh.... i believe we asked for a pix of HER.....
edit:
oh no, you are into watches too......
i WAS. i finally shaked that habit.....
i plan to retired at 100, not gonna work a day longer than that, so no more watches.
I can PS my ugly mug out of that pic if it's hurting your eyes
Love watches but not enough to collect the high end watches. That would break the bank and my wife would have to work to 100 to support my habit
I can definitely do that but it will be another week before I can since the race shop just picked up the car for some track prep. Maybe next weekend I can take the pics.
Funny what is and is not an 'ostentatious display.' Is a red Carerra somehow worse to the casual observer than a gray TT? Would that same person 'react' to a gold Rolex but miss a thin Cartier tank? Probably so.
And for the record... my wife wanted red. I was originally looking for Seal Grey.
And because I didn't say it before - nice car Dell!
Way to go Dell. I think you found the perfect family car. My boys are both pushing 6 feet tall and about once a week they take turns squeezing into the back seat. The roll bar (and padding) didn't help matters.
Don't get me wrong, I wasn't making a judgement about you, but simply commenting on the appearance.
We all own expensive toys of one sort or another, it's the "look at me" aspect of displaying them in a manner to deliberately make them be noticed - that's the ostentatious part.
Simply quietly wearing the items that you mention and not making a big deal about it is not ostentatious - flaunting and displaying, that's what pushes something across the line to ostentatious.
Let me put it this way - one can be wealthy and not show it. One can also be relatively poor, but pretend to be wealthy through extravagant purchases that are beyond one's means but give the appearance that one is wealthy.
Regardless of means I've always been a fan of understated in preference to showy.
So true. A dear friend of mine is a partner in a successful orthodontist practice. He likes watches, but they aren't flashy. He lives in a quaint, yet roomy house, not a mansion or high dollar custom home. He drives an E46 M3 and his track car is a 93 RX-7. He dresses well, but nothing that would attract attention.
He could easily own a Ferrari or Lamborghini, but it's not his style.
When I first met him (at an M3 meet), I had no idea from his appearance that he was "loaded." I just thought he was another IT guy interested in buying an M3.
He tells me his partners are even worse, driving beat-up 20 year old pick up trucks to work. It seems to me, making money is more of an addiction for them than spending it, LOL.

Nice car Dell, would love to see it if I can ever make it to one of the meets, maybe this Saturday?
Wealth accumulation can be an addiction indeed, and a significant one indeed, since wealth that is not put to any use is an ironic waste. Of course one could argue that if it's the accumulation of wealth one's after, then it is a means to an end.
I keep saying that, though I haven't quite convinced myself yet...
