Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Leading evidence: 'Use /p...6d7b8e7019.htm' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is ''99 - '01 c4' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check "free carfax"' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

Suspected cause
I didn't look at the link, but it's probably a '99 - '01 C4.

Anyone could change the rear lid but the tail lights are another story.

I did not mean to run him off but if you want to play with the big dawgs you gotta lift your leg a little higher...I think John Wayne said that in the Alamo..

But to be sure you can look in the trunk for the front diff as many others have said, or run the VIN through the VIN decoder on Renntech and it will tell you for sure too.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

A friend of mine is getting ready to buy a 4. I thought that all 4's came with a wide body, and a different aero kit, not the GT3 aero. I just want to make sure my buddy doesn't get ripped off.

A MK1 (Mark 1) C4 is not a wide body car like the MK2 C4S.
That is also the MK1 aero kit (the MK1 GT3 was never sold in the US). I didn't look at the link, but it's probably a '99 - '01 C4.
The car looks like it is a Mark 1 Carrera 2 with Aero body kit.
It is NOT a carrera 4.
Also the dealer provides a free link to Carfax details on the ad itself.
The carfax says "REAR WHEEL DRIVE"
But to be sure you can look in the trunk for the front diff as many others have said, or run the VIN through the VIN decoder on Renntech and it will tell you for sure too.
Couple observations....
1. $21K looks to be a price for a C2 but seems cheap for an Aero.
2. Why is the ' Carrera ' script missing from the rear lid?
Makes you wonder alittle....
I thought all C4's had the red lens bar thingy all the way across the back, not seperated like the C2. Anyone could change the rear lid but the tail lights are another story. Or are 996 MkI's different?
I'm sure someone near there could take a look at it. I would, but I'm swamped at work this week.
Also, did you call them? I'm sure they will let you know (if they can).

The brake caliper color....
Silver = C4
Black = C2
The pics of the car don't give a good profile shot to see the wheels. But a simple phone call to ask them backed up by an email with pictures from the dealer would do. And while your at get PICS OF THE TRUNK!
Good Luck
I think they are asking you to put a little effort forward and call them. you can find this out in 5 min.
Your conversation should go like this:
You: hello, I am interested in your 911. Can you check the trunk and tell me if the spare is laying flat or upright?
Them: sure, I will be right back
2 min later.
Them: Actually sir there is an engine in there
You: Can you check in the engine compartment and tell me if the spare is laying flat or upright?
Them: er, sure, I will be right back.
1 min later.
Them: Sir, the wheel is ( ). Would you like to send a deposit?
You: Click.
So I went to the link for the 3rd time, got the phone number and guessed what?? I called them up. Can you believe it? I talked to a gent with the name of Pat. He said he was the guy that took the car in trade. I asked him to take some pictures of the wheels and the trunk. He said 'No Pro Blamo'.... I'll post them when I get the email. This exercise took me 3 minutes.
Yah photo's of in the trunk and under the front
Ask the guy for photo's like that and just be to the point and ask the guy what's with the vin and car fax saying C2 when his ad is saying C4.
Just got the pics. You can call me Inspector (Does ur dawwwg biiiite?)....Looks like a C2 to me. Has a CAI as well. Looks like an actual Aero too. Simple phone call made this possible.
I bought mine with the same mileage in May of 2007 for $34.5K. Granted, I have an aftermarket stereo, Litronics, SSK and Fabspeed exhaust... That is still a lot of car for the money.
You said it! The guy at the dealer, when emailing me the pics, thanked me for verifying the car as a GT2. I don't think they have a clue what they have on their lot. This could be a helluva buy for someone. Except for the OP who was too lazy to make a call......
well the PO showed no love to those wheels
and it has rusty rotors (impossible to fix
)
looks like a nice car
SSK, Aluminum pedals with mats that cover the lower 1/2 of the gas
3 spoke, white gages, larger exhaust tips...
Lits, painted bumperettes,
nice work Pete
Ed..........this is the voice of 996 past
.......you dream of having another 996 and now you can have an Aero for cheap
, yup I said it.. CHEAP. Why else do you still hang around here.......camaraderie?
I know the car has been confirmed to be a C2, but I'd never trust Carfax for that information.
1. Not anymore.
2. They took it off or the car was ordered with the badge delete option, which is pretty easily verified. Both are pretty common on these cars.
The mods have 10 ears and 14 eyes.....albeit tempting but last time I looked at **** I had one upside the head before I knew what hit me. The wife busted me and has a 6th, 7th and 8th sense that I'm up to something......
But I was thinking about this today..WTF happened to the OP?
Is his friend getting the car? Or even looking at it? This reminds me of un-greatful children that have Mommy and Daddy do everything for them. I did not mean to run him off but if you want to play with the big dawgs you gotta lift your leg a little higher...I think John Wayne said that in the Alamo..
