Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

yippy - the self repaired car problem - now post some "good" pics
Leading evidence: 'Repair car problem - now post some "good" pics' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Repair car problem - now post some "good" pics' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I did not have a chance to do a lot of in car testing last night, but will on the weekend and will post the results.

how can I test low speed operation of the fans to see if the ballast resistors are okay?
Use diagnostics in the climate control unit (car is 1999)

I am measuring tempeature using the diagnostics in the climate control unit (car is 1999)
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I have searched extensively and nothing appears to deal with issue.
Here are the details
Low speed fans do not appear to operate either when the coolant temp is over 96.75C or when A/C is on. I cannot feel air moving nor can hear them while standing in front of car (should I be able to hear them and feel suction?)
High speed fans do not appear to kick in at 102C (although in fairness the car was not 102C very long and maybe it did not get to that temperature)
The high speed fans both come on when I switch them on manually with my toggle switch (I have done the high speed fan hack). Therefore, I believe that the fan motors are both fine.

Fuses are fine
I have not tested the relays, but I can't believe that they would all fail.
The questions are
how can I test low speed operation of the fans to see if the ballast resistors are okay?
is it possible that the DME is not providing a signal to the fans to operate (if so how or why?)
Many thanks for any insight anyone can offer, I am stumped.
102? IIRC they come on at 103??? (been a while since I looked at that) - it wont hurt to let the car go up a little higher....I would just wait and see
however since they dont come on with the A/C... HMMMM -
Did they work propperly after the "hack" and then quit, or have they never worked since the "hack"
So I came home and started looking at things... I am a prime dumba$$, the low speed fans are coming on... I just thought they were the high speed ones given how loud they are....
I should have spent a bit more time this morning when I got to work looking at things.
What I did discover is that the climate control temperature display is useless... It was showing 103C when in fact the DME only saw 96.5C (verified by my Durametric) and kicking on the low speed fans (which I assumed were the high speed ones, based on the temperature on the climate control). So to repeat what Loren said on Renntech..
DO NOT RELY ON THE CLIMATE CONTROL UNIT FOR TEMPERATURE READINGS
My corollary to that is that the car does not run as hot as everyone thinks it does...
That is super interesting.
I'd read the advice to ignore the climate control hack information, but it always came from people who thought anything other than a Durametric readout was crap, so I discounted it. I figured the hack info, while imperfect, had to be more sensitive than the gage and more useful while driving than having your laptop in the passenger seat. But it seems from this story that the information is downright misleading.
I have to admit, I obsessed about it a bit in heavy traffic. Maybe I won't do that anymore.
I did not have a chance to do a lot of in car testing last night, but will on the weekend and will post the results. Loren indicated on RennTech and my experience seems to validate same.
