Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. My car was only about 18 months old when I first removed my mufflers and swapped the tips to the modded mufflers, so there was not much rust on them, at least not to the point where they were crusty.
Leading evidence: 'Replace tips' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Check order' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

I used two screwdrivers to remove them but snap ring pliers makes it much easier.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

As the title says, my car has a great set of Fabspeed mufflers, I'm looking to go to stock. Anybody interested in a trade? My car's a 99, any 99 through 01 muffler will do.
Thanks
What makes you say they won't fit a C4S?
I know the stock cans for a C4S are a different part number than the C2 mufflers, but the cans are basically the same. Also, the Fabspeed site states that they fit all 996 models.
Wait, why do you want to downgrade your 911? This does not compute...
Did you look at these? I was going to pick them up on your behalf. This is a separate set than the ones I am purchasing.

Who is Darin?
If you are referring to the "J" pipe connection between the intake and exhaust,
I have that mod in my cans. Are you saying it would sound just about as good?
I thought Fabspeed would be louder.
How much weight reduction?
Thanks for the info guys.
Ahmet if they fit I would be interested, but my stock exhaust was modified
here by Pfaff Porsche with mark || (J pipe from intake to exhaust).
It sounds louder from 3000 RPM and up, and quite civilized in low RPMs.
Any/everyone, just PM me if you've got something. Local preferred obviously (but I won't hold my breath).
If you're not local, I would want your stock muffler before shipping mine out. It may be easier for me to find a used stock one, then sell my fabspeed I suppose.
Dan, I've PM'd that guy after seeing they weren't the ones you were buying. Shipping from Canada's not going to be cheap, but I'm trying. And I know you're being sarcastic with the "why downgrade" thing, but it really is a downgrade in some aspects. I do think the fabspeeds flow better, they certainly look nicer, and won't rust. They're also lighter, the only problem is, they're too loud for me...
Darin is "FisterD" Fabspeeds are lighter than stock mufflers. I don't know the actual weight savings going to fabspeeds.

I never weighed them myself, but the stock cans must be close to 30lbs each?
The stock cans are really bricks.
I'd take a wag that Fabspeed is about 10lbs lighter each.
So net-net must be close to ~20lbs total weight savings off your rear bumper.
Replied to.
I think I might be better off finding a set of stock mufflers and doing the swap then selling the fabspeeds once that's done, unless something really convenient pops up...
Take the tips off at the C-clamp where the tip pipe is attached to the muffler. The C-clamp is tough to spread open to get the tips off. I used two screwdrivers to remove them but snap ring pliers makes it much easier.
Did you remove the bolt that holds the ends together?
Once that bolt has been loosened the clamp should turn on relatively freely on the pipes. You will probably have to remove the bolt completely to get the clamps off.
If you don't have snap ring pliers you can use two screw drivers and insert them into the clamp as shown in pic #2 and then push the handles of the screw drivers toward each other to spread the clamp enough to get it off. Just be careful that you do not distort the ends of the clamp too much because that will make it a bit more difficult to get the bolt back through the clamp ends.
yea, and uhhhhh
PLEASE WEAR SAFETY GLASSES
Rust from exhaust parts gets into eyes very easy. Getting it out requires a small nylon brush on the end of a little battery powered Dremel type tool........and dont ask how many people it takes to hold you down in the chair as they are yelling "stop moving your head" at you
My car was only about 18 months old when I first removed my mufflers and swapped the tips to the modded mufflers, so there was not much rust on them, at least not to the point where they were crusty. I guess if your car is 6 to 8 years old and the tips have never been removed, the clamps may be quite rusty.
I learned this on my old 71' CJ5 - but the memory is very vivid for me, as a precautionary measure i always wear safety glasses after I get stuff in my eyes now
I just did mine a month ago and prior to extraction I had 36K and one was pretty darn stubborn. So much to the point that I had to use oxy/acetylene to back the nut off the clamp. Needless to say to get the clamp off, we mangled it pretty badly. They can be stubborn so be willing to sacrifice the clamp. On the bright side they are fairly cheap to replace at the steelership (less than $20).
