Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

11 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi I'm new to Porsche ownership (1999 996 C4 tiptronic) - hence what is probably a daft question but here goes ... Re oil pressure - when I start my 996 from cold, the oil pressure shows c.5 bar for a period of about 20 minutes, it then drops to c.3.0 bar at 3,000 rpm. If i accelerate or keep revs up to c.5,000 rpm, oil pressure stays at around 5 bar. I hva echecked the oil level via dipstick (and electronic meter), level is fine about 75% above lower level and 25% blow upper level. Is this normal or do I have a problem? Many thanks in advance

POST 2Original post

Normal. Congratulations on the new car! You should post some pics so we can all ohh and ahh

POST 3Original post

The oil pressure on the 3.4 engine should be as follows: Idle and above on a cold engine: 5 bar Fully warmed engine Idle: 2 or above (sometimes as low as 1.5 when really hpt) Fully warmed engine above 3,000 rpms: at least 4.5 bar This assumes your oil level is full. Lower oil levels will produce lower pressures. Have fun with your new car.

POST 4Original post

Congrats... Mine does exactly the same thing and has been doing it since the day i got her. ENJOY! What color did you get and what options?

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks to all who replied - btw, it's an Ocean blue metallic with grey ruffled leather, litronics, pdc, and 18" wheels. I'm as happy a pig in Sh*t! Cheers Barrie

POST 7Original post

There's a rule foe virgins. No more posts until you post a pic. Kidding. We do DEMAND pics, though .

POST 9Original post

3 bar at 3000 RPM is not right no matter how hot or cold your motor is. Piston ring worn out, maybe.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I think it's more like 3.5 - 4.0k - will check and advise. Thanks BarrieG

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

it indeed as follows: Idle and above on a cold engine: 5 bar Fully warmed engine Idle: 2 or above (sometimes as low as 1.5 when really hpt) Fully warmed engine above 3,000 rpms: at least 4.5 bar Thanks to all that replied, it is appreciatedf. Rgds Barrie
