Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was driving around with my new motor with 22 miles on it and noticed it didn't sound much different from my old motor with the orange cap in it. Opened up the throttle body intake hose and voila!; orange cap still in place. On a motor change the must just disconnect at the throttle body and bolt the whole air box in as is.

POST 3Original post

you def need to find out how new is your new motor....then

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Luckily, the reconditioning facility in Ontario, California didn't have anything for an '02 Carrera. They shipped in a late model 996 motor from Germany with the new thermostat housing. Looks like a win win situation. Sure is fun breaking in a new motor like I stole it.

POST 5Original post

Is it possible that the motor is new and they put your old airbox assembly back on or even a used air box? I thought "new" replacement motors came with eveything except the airbox assembly and mufflers? I may not be right.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yup, that is exactly what happened. The U.S. stock engine reconditioning facilities were out of stock so they shipped in a crated motor from Germany. It is definitely my old airbox. The tech just installed it at the throttle body intake hose with the orange cap being lower on that hose blocking off the silencer in the airbox. He even commented on how the new motor roars with authority in high revs.

POST 7Original post

Well, tht is kind of funny...at least you didn't get someone else's orange cap. Probably a good omen! Good luck with the new power unit.
