Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I run sans cats with O2 sensor extenders so I don't trip a CEL.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Your cats are covered for 8 years or 80,000 miles via the federal emissions warranty. It's in your owners manual.
You are most likely safe on the years part, what is your mileage?
OEM cats are $1171.00 each. That is the best price I have found for OEM cats.
I had mine replaced under warranty at 74K miles. Just made it in under the wire. If I have to do it on my own dime, I think I'll go with aftermarket cats. I would probably lean towards the Fabspeed xpipe.
mine is a 03 and I imported it from the states. I have 68 kilometers on my car. How can I check if warranty still applies in my case and if it was transferred to Canada?
Porsche Canada?
I have no CEL either. As daredevil said...around town, it's no louder at all, it's only under WOT that you hear the noise...and it's a sweet, sweet noise
I've been looking at Europipe Stage 1 Quiet. Seems like a good choice for those us us that don't like a lot of noise.
You might also find someone who just swapped out the exhaust and buy their cats for cheap.
If there's a competent exhaust fabrication shop (not Meineke or something of that nature) near you, having high quality universal cats welded to the factory pipes may be a great cost effective option. If you do go this route, arrive w/the rear bumper and heat shields OFF the car. That is if you want a cost effective QUIET solution. You can get high quality/flow cats for around $90 a piece and fabrication work may run you ~$150ish depending on your location.
**** Product
No Fabspeed, FVD is definatly better Customer Service
Dont bother!
Whatever you do dont buy Fabspeed, bunch of lazy people & dont stand behind their products.
Get FVD they will give you 5+ Year warranty on their Cats.
Fabspeed (should be Fab****) is only 2 year and after that goodluck getting any help at all from those lazy bums... My Tubi (Mufflers) and Evoms (Headers) were yearsss old, out of Warranty and i bought them Used and they (Champion & EVOMS) Replaced them no Questions Asked.
If you serviced the car at the dealer and good relationship or personal contact person they might do it for you....doesn't hurt to ASK several dealers in your area, if you have an option....
Don't call, but go in person and have offer to have some other stuff done, i.e. oil change, etc....where they can make a few bucks and you might get lucky......
My C4s was out of warranty and I had some major work done by the second dealer who must have needed the business. etc......water pump...have had luck with other repairs also.......
Dealer can do goodwill warranty work if they want to and Porsche will pay them.......good luck....
I had one go bad around 90K, found a complete set including new mufflers and headers with about 1500 miles on them for $800.00 . Owner removed the complete exhaust to convert into a race car after purchase. Point is, they are out there if you start looking.
If you have to or decide to go to the "stealer" for cats, AND you are a PCA member, you can get 10% off parts, at least my local stealer offers that to PCA members.
Also, as a suggestion, since you are in NY (although I am not sure exactly your location) you might want to check with Rutdner's (LI), or Dan Jacobs at Hairy Dog Garrage (CT) or Spenser at Speedsport (?CT) to see if they might have a set of cats (stock or perf.) lying around due to one of their customers, who swappped out stock for a performance set-up or switched performance set-ups. Might just be sitting around collecting dust and your the perfect candidate to pick 'em up for a song.
Riad, Im having the same issue but my tech is telling me the check engine light could be caused by bad O2 sensor/s either before or after cat or the cat/s themselves. How did you decifer that you need new cats and not new sensors instead? Did they swap sensors first? Cheaper solution obviously...
I would check the codes out first.... but as for Fabspeed vs FVD, the cats are made by the same german shop (HJS) but I would look at the build between the two... one is better than the other.
I'm going to buy a code reader tomorrow... check the codes myself and take it from there. I will not be replacing the OEM cats... if I have to go down that road I'll just go Fabspeed or AWE and at least have some fun.
