Just a quick question, how much is the fair price range for an indie oil change for a 996 in the Northeast ?

Probably one of the easiest cars around to change the oil and filter on.

Ok, I know I'm new to P-cars and everything, and the 996 is a high performance vehicle but why in the hell are oil changes so expensive?
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My local Porsche dealership just charged me $120.00 for an oil change. I thought that was good. My normal indipendent charged me $89 on the Carrera 4S.
For me, I kinda enjoy doing the oil change myself on all my cars, so I am always looking forward to the next one. I already got my 0W40 oil and filter ready to go on the 996
Though I understand that some people don't have the time and patience do it themselves. Cheers...
Ok, I know I'm new to P-cars and everything, and the 996 is a high performance vehicle but why in the hell are oil changes so expensive? I would think doing an oil change on a 996 would be easier than a front engine car.
I paid $99 last week on a special deal with FastForwardWheels in Los Angeles. I usually have my local indie do it, just bring the parts and he charges $25 for labor come out to $96 total. This time I decided to bring some business to FastForwardWheels for their grand opening. Owner is a friend of mine.
Well, for one thing it is 10 qts and most dealers will charge $8-10/qt, filter is $15 to 20. Usually they charge an hour labor at a deal, at $100/hr (disposal/rags/incidentals0. That's an easy $220. I do my own. Mobil 1 from Walmart at $5.79 a qt, and oil filters from Sunset or ebay.
Yes, walmart has some nice prices on oil, that's where I get my Mobil 1 in the 5 gallon containers.
Is it a major PITA to do an oil change on a 996? Meaning, besides the obvious engine-in-the-rear thing, is it pretty straightforward to DIY?
Probably one of the easiest cars around to change the oil and filter on.
Access is easy - with a pair of ramps it's a walk in the park.
Having a big enough oil pan is probably the biggest 'issue' for most
Perry: I do it the same way...Walmart for oil at $5.69 a quart...call up Sunset and have them send me a couple of filters since the shipping is the same for one or two, a couple washers...and I end up doing it for about $55 for 9 quarts...$12 for the filter and .75 cents for a couple washers....grand total of rounded out to $70....take the oil to Kragan's for disposal and done deal. Of course I'm retired, so the time and effort isn't worth it to a lot of the working folks....but look at the actual costs of around $70 compared to the $250 or even more that some of you are paying. Porsche dealerships make up a large part of their profits in the service department. Just as a matter of curiosity....what is the hourly rate they charge in your particular neck of the woods?
