We literally had a 300+ mile run where 4 of us ran between 130-150mph.
Leading evidence: 'Run between 130-150mph' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, the most frequently mentioned possible cause is 'easy way' (1 discussions; 0 report identifying it and 1 suggest it). The most frequently discussed action is 'Check books and id' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.

The only issue is the guys coming in from a distance, I would bet a lot more guys would wake up at 4am look at the clock and roll their eyes and go back to sleep.

They also run aerial spotters from time to time, and radio down to the cars when they have a target that needs pulling over - they wait for you to come along then on with the lights for the stop.

Awesome road! Probably my single favorite road anywhere in SoCal. I'm working all of those weekends, so I can't make it, but I wish I could. Have fun .
I usually don't post run info on alot of forums since the black and blue might be reading and might "attend" the run also.
I love Palomar and the last time I was there, I was running the Advan AD07s... quick tires!
I'm picky on my dates going to Palomar since it has become very popular the past few years... so depending on when you go, I might go.
I like Idyllwild nowadays.
I did the Palomar run last year with a group of p-cars and it was a blast. I would attend based on the final date.
June 14th is the
Friends of Steve McQueen Car Show in Chino Hills, CA
and Im attending that show.
They are there anyways down on the 76. Three of them today. But with the amount of bikes out there. I would think us going would be a drop in the bucket....But you are right about the forum deal. Maybe PMing for the date would add another layer of difficulty. What do you think?
Palomar Mountain is one of my favorite roads I've been on - used to drive it once every month or two for years when i lived in San Diego.
Just be careful of all the motorcycles. I've seen them get crazy and cross lanes, and have seen many of them lay their bikes down. You don't have much visibilty ahead, and the roads are somewhat narrow, so those new to the road should keep that in mind and don't charge it too fast.
Such a blast though.. nice smooth roads and incredibly windy. Your brakes will get a workout on the way down, that's for sure.
I found one of the guys taking the photos out there (Rick Clemson)....... May want to give him a heads up when we are going there.
.
One other thing, to the folks interested in the winery. There are two that I'm preferential to, South Coast and Ponte. Ponte has a nice out door restaurant and nice wine. South Coast has a nice wine tasting room but I'm not to hot on their restaurant. Anyone's pick on where to go.
.
I would love to go! If it ends up being on the 22nd I have to be back by 11 I'm taking a few buyers to a foreclosure auction in Oceanside. I've been wanting to go to Palomar with the RUF so this would be a great opportunity!
Yes, yes, yes...Count me in! Did the Temecula to Palm Springs run on Sunday with the Mrs. and it was great with few others on the road. Can't wait to try the Palomar Road
Baron
I think this works for me too as a post-Father's day-day.
Would love to see Javier's Ruf 993.
Ponte outdoor eating sounds nice.
- Are you bringing Paris?
- Can we meet up early before traffic?
-Dave
22nd at Star*ucks works for me, I've comitted Sunday to re-fitting the couch but the 951's seat is a little overdue for a fitting... Spencer gets an hour and a half headstart.
I may be peeling off after the drive also, we'll see.
Add me to the list too ... I know there is also another drive to Mt. Palomar and possibly to Inspiration Point just outside of Julian. Folks are talking about 22 or 29 June.
I think I'm in, but I'll bug out after the drive and miss lunch as I'll be out of town the week prior, and don't get home til late Friday night. Gotta keep the Mrs happy....
I'll just make sure I get some 100 octane the weekend before, and I should be ready to go.
PS- I'll throw a thread and link up on the Rennlist 911 board. There are some guys there who don't go on Pelican, which is where I saw your post on this event.
I know the issue with those import guys a couple of months ago in Riverside. But how different is this than a PCA run? Or the Cars and Coffee in Carlsbad?
If you want I'll pull the info.
the SD region pca runs are far from entertaining so no risk for tickets. I stopped doing them because they have become more for sightseeing.
The C&C meet is stationary and usually the runs if any take place before that, actually there is one this saturday with more info on 6speed for the interested, exact location and time is sent by pm, I 'll be there.
Ok so the info has been removed to the best I can do right now. (I'm sitting in a waiting room at the City of Hope)
Deleting info on a blackberry is far from easy. I'll fix the rest and PM people to fix their posts to clean it all up.
All new information will be through PM's.
I sincerely doubt the CHP has a task force dedicated to monitor the Rennlist site! They will be there anyway cause a thousand ricers hit that route every weekend.
Puhlease.....I'm quite sure there is no need for such paranoia! Are there cops out there? Yes? Do you think they actually are that well staffed to think they scour the internet for these things? This friggin' state, and the other 49 have too many other things to waste money on than that.
When you think about it, if they actually had the resources to target this stuff, the more effective way would be to plant a boatload of patrol cars on all of the mountain roads in SoCal on weekends, and just start writing tix. Like shooting fish in a barrel.
Please PM me with the meet location and such, as I didn't take the time to note it down, assuming I'd still have a thread to refer to.
I'd also like the map that was there, as I'm putting together as many routes as I can for future use. That is, unless, Big Brother hacks into my computer and grabs the info.
Well it looks like I can't make everyone happy on the info issue. I left the date out there so anyone new if interested will PM for the location.
FWIW, the LEO's in Tucson did monitor a web forum and made a fun run suck for some. My feeling on the whole thing is that there are alot of Police out at Mt Palomar anyways. I doubt that they'll be able to fiit anymore on the road. And I really didn't see any reason to believe that they're looking. But I'm sure there's some cop bored on a Saturday night (maybe the dog wasn't interested in Peanut butter) looking to move up in the traffic division.
So, I'll PM everyone with the directions this weekend since I'm out of town tonight. I also have to wait a little bit since I loaded the photos on a thumb drive and swallowed it so that they couldn't get the locations if they picked me up tonight. Those will have to be sent later.....
I used to meet up with the 99x guys for Malibu runs at 0dark:30 and we would do insane speeds through the canyons. Fred would take lead and just disappear... If you're afraid officer friendly is out there, stay at the back of the pack.
Looks like a great group of cars, any photo op locations selected yet?
Cool, I use a Passport Solo......kind of a buzz kill looking at the results in the radar thread. Anyways, I think we're taking the kids to Oceanside on Sunday to play at the beach.....Woohoo.
We took 11 928's from Texas to NC last year. We saw two cops the entire way, as luck would have it, so the entire trip east was at a rapid clip. We literally had a 300+ mile run where 4 of us ran between 130-150mph. Ah, German Muscle Cars out touring. What fun that was. But, I digress....
We randomly took turns out in front so none of us was the lead dog or the caboose for any length of time. It was like a ballet, with the constant rotation, and kept any individuals "stress" level low, as those speeds probably mean a free night's stay in the local pokey.
I travel all over the southwest by truck for work and you can sometimes find a "partner" who will trade out leading when going slightly over the limit. I'm not much for 100+ in a pick up but when you're running 10+ and don't want to spend the $130 on ticket it's pretty good.
I'm working on the map again. Added the start and stop too.
For reference - LEOs will be out on Palomar on any given weekend, it's just a lottery as to when you'll meet one (or more).
They also run aerial spotters from time to time, and radio down to the cars when they have a target that needs pulling over - they wait for you to come along then on with the lights for the stop.
So you take your chances if you speed - and if you get caught then consider it a speed tax and move on.
As for safety - I've seen a motorcycle coming down the hill take the side off the car in front, because the rider lost control over the center line.
It's a busy place - you can be completely on your side of the road - you can still get hit by someone less skilled/lucky.
Great roads never the less, and a thrilling drive.
After Palomar, we should absolutely do a run into Palm Dessert on the Pines to Palms Highway one day.
Just look at those curves top right!
I ran the palm to pines two weeks ago. In a pickup....woot.....but I'd like to. You would swear that when you get down to the Palms you were in Tucson. Arnee talks about Idlyywild and what fun it is. I'd like to do that one too.
Yeah, Pines-to-Palms is a little bit more boring than Hwy-243 to Idyllwild. 243 intersects Pines-to-Palms @ Mountain Center and you can either go east (Palm Springs Area), west (Hemet area), or southwest (Anza/Aguanga area closer to Temecula).
Hwy 243 isn't as popular as Palomar and I wouldn't mind doing that with you, Ed!
Unfortunately, I'm still tentative for Palomar. I will let you know if I'm a go.
A couple of folks have talked about that.....Who wants to move it earlier? I'm normally up early so it doesn't bother me at all....
The only issue is the guys coming in from a distance, I would bet a lot more guys would wake up at 4am look at the clock and roll their eyes and go back to sleep.
Hi guys,
Do you mind if a few members of Pcars members join in the run? We are from Pcars.us forum that love to do meet & run with local So. Cal Porsche event. Some of us also member of PCA Orange County Chapter.
OMG you're the LEO instigator.
Just kidding, the more the merrier.
The map is at the Temecula CHP main office in their debriefing room.... Just kidding again.
If you want the map I'll send it to you. The time might be changing but everything else is good.
One other thing, I want to get a head count and if wives/girlfriends/significant others are coming along to to the winery. Not that I'm booking a reservation but rather to get a heads up if some are bringing "extras" or not. My wife plans on meeting up at the winery. And there are others interested in doing the same since the wives don't enjoy canyon runs.... It's also a good idea to give teh restarant a heads up that there will be an influx of folks all at once.....
Let me know if you're bringing someone or they are meeting you there at the winery. (Which is a good idea and more than likely an easy way to get the sunday away from the "honey do's".)
Just an update.....30 cars now. How's that for a carbon footprint.

I'm not sure if anyone is interested in actually going to the observatory. I can't remember if there's a good shot of the dome from the parking lot. (yes I did go to visit). I'll check this weekend when I go up for a refresher run.
Hey it was getting pretty boring chasing the bikes up the hill. plus I haven't meet alot of you folks so this is a good way to find out who to avoid.....
i dont know how fair this is gonna be...with 3 944s how are you all going to keep up in the really twisty parts?
we might get impatient waiting for you guys to catch up at every turn..
So has a time been decided? It sounds like Palomar gets pretty busy and is better if we gather at around six or so... Man, even if half of the cars show up it'll be something!
I'm going to run it today in a couple of minutes to see the schedule. If we go too early we'll be fiddling our thumbs at the winery waiting for it to open.
I'll let you know.
Well, I went out today and there were hardly any bikes or cars. I left my house at 8:30, stopped and took some video from the vista on Palomar (Which I caught a couple of deer trying to hitch a ride with a bike.)
I stopped at the top, talked to some bikers, drove to the observatory then down the other side and was near the winery by 11am. So I think if we leave at 8:30am and have some longer stops (to jump start the 944s/ let them add coolant) We can make it to the winery at the right time. Any earlier and we'll be sticking our thumbs in our tail pipes for a half an hour or more.
Here's a photo from today at the vista....
Any earlier and we'll be sticking our thumbs in our tail pipes for a half an hour or more.
I need that xtra half an hour to cool down and freshing up my car from road grime.
Ok 8am can work too. 8am departure from Starbucks....Jimminie criminie....
Here's a crappy video of the bikes going up. The first bike almost hit a doe and fawn right at the end, you can sort of see the deer....
Sweet. I should have video'd the old lady in the geo metro. She was hauling *** down the hill with a bike racing behind her. Right where you took your photo she was (I swear) just loosing traction and the outer wheels where "bending" over as she went around. It was awesome.
So to everyone 8am departure from Starbucks! This will be one big Porsche group.....
Jawohl! I'm still in, but yeah I haven't gone near Ortega since they started construction.
Guess I'll need to come around the horn somehow....I'll map it out or let me know if you have an idea coming from Mission Viejo.
-Dave
Ed,
Mind if I join you? I used to organize a few drives a few years back for some of the area's Boxster owners. I know those roads fairly well. Ever do Mesa Grande? Nice little 7 mile stretch. Wasn't very well known then but I'm sure everyone knows it now.
Let me know,
Thanks,
SJ
Sheriff's legit. I "talked" to him today through emails.
Plus I looked through all the Law Enforcement forums:
MustacheandBrushcut.com
Donttazemebro.net
No word on the gathering.
Well, I'm out for sure. Broken head stud fell out of number 3 exhaust side valve cover during valve adjustment yesterday. And, I was really looking forward to a drive, too. I've only driven the 911 about 300 miles since last October. Have fun, guys.
Brett
Thanks for standing up for me Chris. I guess 1st time posting and my "handle" was poorly timed! LOL.
I was very active on PPBB for a long time, then got board with the boards!. I would just search for technical info and lurk from time to time.
I'll sign up more and post more often.

Got the last of visiting family stuff outta' the way so I'll spend the next couple of days on the car. I was hoping to get the 968 hatch on but that may not happen.
Told a local 993 guy about this, we'll see if he posts.
HEY BOYS and GIRLS!
Scheduled departure from the coffee house is 8am.
Any back room deals, first encounters, etc. will need to occur before hand. So I was expecting to get there at 7am and wait for the folks to show.
Rock on. I'm washing the car tomorrow!
One other tid-bit. Scott Craven (the one who photographs the bikes on Palomar, Kneedownphotos.com) is going to try to get out there early to get photos of us. I like the ones he's done before and will most likely order a couple from him after the run.....
.
Once Javier vouches for you you'll get the map. Or you'll need to fill out the questionnaire, have it notarized, then I'll give you a list for shops that give the tech inspections.
Or we'll wait for Javier. Or he can forward the map to you.
I've lost count on how many people might be showing. We've lost three this week but four to five have requested the map from the other forums.
Also, we might be changing the winery. My wife talked to Ponte and they were unsure that they could accommodate the amount of cars coming. We might be going to South Coast, which is next door. They have a huge parking area. I never expected a turn out like this so we've possibly out grown Ponte. Either one they are both great places. I just liked Ponte's menu better. Who knows it's been a couple of months since I ate at South Coast.
I'll have to look at the Starbucks parking lot again. I think there was 80+ spots.
As for the cows. I did watch a doe and fawn jump out in front of a motorcycle last week! And the radios does everyone use motorolas? I've got two somewhere.
Yeah but the wife called and they were concerned that they could handle the crowd plus the regular sunday people. Either or. But I'm going to talk to Ponte again today and see what they can do. Their lot is normally full. But if we get there at 11am or so we can take up all those spots. What winery would not want to have a bunch of Porsches outside? You'd have to be a moron not to want them there.
Better than some hoopty car group.
Damn, this is shaping up to be a major event!
I have to bow out, unfortunately. It's my B-day weekend and it turns out friends and family are throwing a little bash for me that day.
Enjoy the run, be safe and take some pics to post here!
Okay, we're going to have plenty of flat-6 "sturm und drang" through the canyons as I put on my new bypass pipes last night and also installed 7mm & 14mm spacers, looks and sounds great.
It's amazing how I'm now chirping rubber off the line, I don't know if it's because of the rearend being ~30lbs lighter or the motor responding to less back-pressure?
Ha, fun stuff, ready for those pesky 944s.
We are still on for Ponte. I talked to them there today and everything is good. Also with a 11am arrival we will be getting there when it opens so we can fill up that side parking lot as a group. Tick tock this is going to be great.

Ed,
my parents have shown some interest in tagging along (mostly because mom wants more wine).
do you think it would be ok for a Q45 to trail the pack? its got a fresh suspension, new tires and a 300HP V8 at the front. id bet it would give a few of the cars coming a run for their money.
I'm glad your parents want to go after your last PM. Sheesh!
I do not see why not. As long as they don't split the group with that Mazda.... Maybe they'll think of buying a Porsche. There's going to be a lot of different models there. Kind of a dynamic showroom.
Plus they'll keep you in line.
OK folks, Last day before the run. I would like to point out that we are leaving the Starbucks at
8am
. So get there earlier to meet everyone. As for gas stations. There is a Shell just west of the 79 and 15. There is also a Mobil1 right before the Coffee shop (between the 15 and Starbucks). There is also a Valero next to the coffee shop. See map.
GPS addresses to preprogram your GPS to help along the way:
From Starbucks to:
Mothers Kitchen
33120 Canfield Rd
Palomar Mountain, CA 92060
[phone removed]
From Palomar sending you in the right direction. This is not a stop but just a way to get the GPS to go the right way.
Barley House
45560 State Highway 79
Aguanga, CA 92536
[phone removed]
Final destination.
Ponte Winery
35053 Rancho California Rd
Temecula, CA 92591
[phone removed]
I figure from our start point we can go straight to Palomar. Depending on the size of the group. First stop would be the Vista halfway up. Then Mothers Kitchen. A quick skip to the Observatory (They have a big parking lot for the final photo of all the cars, some will be leaving from here.)
Group photo?
Afterwards a nice drive down. Ending up at Ponte for lunch. I spoke with the director at Ponte and they said that the side parking lot at that time will not be full so we can get all the cars together. (I tried to get them to rope it off) What is nice is that the parking lot is surrounded by vines. If we park all the same direction it would be a great photoshoot. Sound good?
One final word for the trip. We going for fun and enjoying the drive with a group of others. I'm not interested in reckless driving, and spending the day sitting with a row of cars lined up because the CHP pulls all us over because of one individual. No one has anything to prove here. We all know I've got the fastest car here....High speed down some straight away on 76 is only going to get you pulled over. The CHP love that road and I have yet to drive down it without passing 2-3 patrols.
As for Temecula, the patrols there are always looking for people coming from the wineries. They have road blocks on 79 and Rancho California to the 15 on a regular basis.
Common sense tells you how to handle the lunch.
Some folks are bringing spouses and family (me for one) so lets show some class here. I would like to make this somewhat of a regular event, as long as we are enjoying the run. If someone becomes the bad apple depending on what happens, either they are not invited back again or we just don't have another one.
Let's make if fun and memorable. Not regrettable.
I know I sound like some ol biddy but I'm just pointing a couple things out.
Right on boys and girls. Bring the cameras. Anyone able get video would be super.
Well crap... I knew it was 8 but I got there about 8:15...
Did run into a white 944 S2 in the lot up there, 10-spoke Carrea's/968 spoiler. And a white 944S coming back on 15, honked and waved but the driver was out to lunch.
So I went out and hugged some twisties along 76, 79, 371, and 74. I hate an unfamiliar area because I get into the driving and blaze through all my turns and windup somewhere off the map. Five hours and 270 bug smushing miles later, the Turbo is getting a cooldown. Zero tickets today.
I hope to catch everyone next time.
I hope you decide to come with us tomorrow......Kevin you really need to go out again....
This reminds me of going out to a family get together with all the relatives. We bitched the whole way because it was in B.F.E. and there were so many other national parks that were closer to Tucson, Az and when we get there, no one shows. All we had was potato salad and no stores nearby. Then at the end of the day we go home and call. They changed it to the following day, and wanted to know if we were willing to go back....
Ed, well put! You just set the tone for making this a classy event of fine cars and people out to enjoy the sights. I too would like to see this as a regular occurence. My wife is off having a "girls' weekend", and has called to make sure I'm going to be careful tomorrow about 3 times.
PS: I'm glad we're going a bit earlier, it is friggin' hot today! Having an absence of A/C hardware on my car would not be fun in 100+ temps.
PPS: Plus, on the subject of sanity, I was worried about how my poor ol' air-cooled girl with a motor built by me would keep up with all of Porsche's later creations.
Yeah, I'm slightly glad I'm not going tomorrow. It's gonna be hot on Palomar, and it would be a little unpleasant in an old 911 without AC. I'm not at all glad to have to park it because of the broken head stud, however.
Enjoy everyone.
Brett
Larry, bring the 928's too! Would love to see (and hear) some of you guys out there.
Also, tell your gf she can bring her R8.
Just watching on Speed a Porsche 911 leading Rolex GT cars, so even more inspiration to join our Porsche parade tomorrow!

Well... I don't feel so bad now, some how I got this weekend and next weekend lumped into the Saturday activities thing. Maybe because both Sundays have family stuff going on.
I'll go ahead and take that rubber chicken now..
Hey guys I'm going to point it out tomorrow as well, but as another Lister pointed out, the bikes up there pretend their heads are the brass rings at the carousel in Asbury Park. They may have their tires on their side of the road but the melon is sitting over our side of the road. It doesn't hurt to take an additional foot or two to the right of the center line. Little "thought you should know" info.
Hmmm....maybe I should put my bra on the frontend to keep bloodstains off the paint? I do have stoneguards on the headlights, wonder if they work against m/c helmets?
Snell M200/M2005 are ok with the bra, if they are wearing SA200/SA2005 you're SOL.
Well the wife said I better hit the hay. The "Rex Goliath" chardonnay is going to make my face look puffy tomorrow.......I hope you all don't mind.
At elevation it really wasn't that bad, I know, I was there..
Just keep wind in your sails and you will be fine, the I15 corridor is another story.
E, any thoughts on how to put the scooters up front?
Another 255 miles of grasshopper decapitating, gravel munching fun. The "period" flip-down lights are a real bonus here.
Thanks for getting this together Ed. Unfortunately I only got to meet a handful of new faces, and it's always good to see old friends.
Ed, again, great job pulling this together! That's a great route, one of the best workouts that I've been able to give my 996!
Wasn't able to hang out through lunch, but it was great meeting you guys. Gotta say, you're all some pretty good drivers, we kept a good pace out there.
I love 993s, and Javier's black Ruf is special. Also love Deano's silver 993, Ed's 911 Targa, Ben's red turbo 944 (with your woman and puppy!), hell they're all great, right?

That was indeed great fun. Thanks from me as well Ed. What a great bunch of folks, I enjoyed meeting everyone today.
I'm really enjoying this SoCal P-car thing.....
We need to make this a semi-regular (quarterly? semi-annual?) event.
On the way down, I had a clear road and one of the photogs snapped what seemed to be some great pics of my car. I'll need to Google the possible suspects to see how it turned out. I'm glad I left when I did- it was getting pretty darned warm on the way home. Hope you guys had a good lunch!
All I can say is thanks for all those who made the run today. We started with 20 cars and lost one right on the warmup road. (Marcel, hope you can make the next one.) It was more than I expected as a fun drive. No incidents, no tickets, fun driving and a great lunch to finish it off. Little on the hot side at the end....
Here are some photos that we grabbed on the camera. Little small but I'm too tired to reload larger ones!
I think I need a few upgrades to keep up with some of you boys. Maybe a K&N air filter or something.....
Anyways. I do believe that the trip is definitely worth being an annual run. A few certainly expressed a biannual affair. I'm up for that too. I think we might need to wait for cooler weather though. Thanks guys. What a way to finish the weekend!
Hello everyone,
My brother and I had a great time! Ed, thanks for putting this together.. sorry we didn't go to lunch, but my brother pooped out on me.
I'm up for making this a quarterly thing. I'm glad I got to meet so many of you... I only wish we would've had more time to get to know each other better... there's always next time, right?
I have some pics I will post later... thanks again!
Yes, he blew rad hose and was able to baby it back to Temecula, and fix it himself. He's really interested in getting to go on that run again. He really liked the first bit. I had to break the news that the first bit was the tiring warming road and there was a whole lot more out there to enjoy.
Thanks again Ed. I too will post some pics tomorrow. What a great time. The run down from the obesrvatory was incredible.....
Great group, what a drive.
What a great day! 85 miles of twisties and awesome views.
Many thanks to Ed for putting this day together!!

Excellent and flawless run guys, had a very good time. I hope you all liked the twisty "detour" up Mesa Grande too.
Count me in for the next one for sure.
Anthony
Hey everyone, its James with the Trailblazer. Thank you all for a great day and letting me run with you guys even though I brought not only an American car, but an SUV. You guys are great, and can't wait for next time.
That detour was spot on in the challenge column, quick shifts to keep the turbo spooled while single handing the hairpins, most tasty! You Tip folks have it too easy..
I think the Turbo R behind me might have caught a recovery..
In the beginning I was afraid it would more parade then funrun, glad I was disappointed.
+1... got to give my GT1 brakes a good work out. Btw, ibkevin, it was very fun being behind you through the twisties uphill... my brother was trying to take pics of your car, but ride was too rough.
I warned ya!
But did you catch my double correction Javier, I might have had just enough lead to pull it out before you came through the corner. The stock pedals are impossibe for heel-toe'ing.
Your pass made me a little jealous..
Yeah you saw the kneedownphotos too right?

If any of you guys get a bug in the ear to run any sat or sunday maybe a night before post would generate a couple of guys. I'm going back next weekend to see what I missed this time around.
-- Jordan, that's a gorgeous shot of your car.
Your suspension must be really tight cuz it looks like you're barely moving and I know that was *not* the case!
I ordered both pics on Knee Down but haven't received them yet....
I did see those pics too, I'm going to buy this one:

I was pretty tight on the apex, as I'm almost fully inside the white shoulder line.
I'm up for another run soon, I may go out early this Saturday myself. I'm only 20 miles from the turn up Grade Rd. from Hwy 76 if I go the back way thru Valley Center. Keeps me away from the 15, and cuts 20 miles off the trip each way. I never thought I'd be so close to such great drives!
Thanks guys...I love my setup. I can't overstate how much a suspension and proper alignment/balance transforms these cars (regardless of year/model).
A zero tolerance motorsports alignment and corner balance is the best gift you can possibly give your Porsche be it one day old or a dozen years.
A lot of you guys mentioned how great my exhaust sounded (bypass pipes), wish I could share the audio of the above pic too!
It was great heel/toe downshifting with those Pipes barking, could really hear what I was doing, by the time I got home it was like I was at a rock concert, ha!
^ You call that loaded up?
Just add a little water to that cattle guard... I'm guessing that and the down slope have something to do with the stone guard rails over the bridge. Ouch.
Ok I have family coming in on thursday till monday and I'm going to have to find a REALLY GOOD excuse to run Palomar on Sat and Idyllwild on Sunday. Give me some time.....
heh
hey family first, right? the weekend after this weekend is 4th of July and I'm sure there will be lots of campers in Idyllwild and the national forests.
Are you hooked on twisty road driving, Ed? hehe
Ed, that's a great shot too, what a great corner!
Wow, it looks like Palomar is going to become our Mulholland Drive.
Would love to know every corner like I think Anthony does.
I do sound hypocritical don't I?
I guess I better clarify, "Family" is the wife's sister in law. A recent divorcee who is looking to move down here from Idaho. She plans on being drunk the whole time she's here. (Her words not mine.) So my week end is going to be spent baby sitting and chauffeuring two party girls during the afternoon and night. The mornings will be VERY quiet around the house. And I'd rather spend that time poking around the hills than waiting for the ladies to wake up...... I hope that excuses me from being contradictory....
Thanks, the guy got great pics of all of us.
Here is what I think I want to run this Saturday. Go up Grade Rd off of 76 like we did, maybe stop at Mother's, and then continue on E. Grade Rd, where it eventually loops past Lake Henshaw, and then runs back to 76 where we turned onto S. Grade Rd. That's the intersection/direction we saw another pack of Porsches coming from the other day. About a 28 mile loop, seemingly thru sportscar Nirvana. The run up is twisty, the run down looks a little higher speed. Maybe that's the one you guys took down the other day, I'm not sure. I can be at the corner of Valley Center Rd. (56) and Hwy 76 at 6:30, 7:00, whatever. There's a place at the intersection (Northside of 76, I believe) where we could meet called:
Stage Stop & Liquor
[phone removed]
17128 Highway 76, Pauma Valley, CA 92061
Yeah, he's a trooper and quite an automotive expert at 6, ha!
I was impressed by Ben in the red 944 Turbo with his wife (?) and their little white puppy, ha!
She must have been holding on to that dog like crazy through those turns.
One of the other guys said he took his young daughter on such a drive a while back....
and she was in the back of the car saying "this is the worst day of my life!" ha!
A most excellent run this morning up and down Palomar, past Lake Henshaw, thru Mesa Grande with the culmination of a great breakfast in Julian.
I saw a pack of Honda/Toyota/Whatevers pulled over by the CHP on my way down 78 from Julian. Glad it wasn't us.
yeah, they started pretty late.. I wonder.. I'll check out NSXprime and see if they posted.
Good meeting you both!
I'll post my pics later... just got home from a wedding.
Terry's 997TT.
I had shots of Karl's (black 996) and Jon's (white M3) but they didn't come out nice as it was still too dark for the shutter in auto-mode. Fiddling with the cam at 80mph was tough.
