Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

25 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • Rennlist: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Check out this interesting article: http://viewer.zmags.com/showmag.php?...1&_x=1#/page2/ In it Porsche personnel claim the new motor is superior to the old GT1 based unit used in the GT3. They also claim the oiling system is superior to the dry sumped motor and no more RMS failures. Sounds pretty good. What do you think?

POST 2Original post

Pretty cool. Glad to see they're addressing the issue and improving the car. Maybe I'll buy a used one in ten years when mine feels outdated!

POST 3Original post

yup... some serious progress... can't wait to see performance figures for the new 3.6 and 3.8 with PDK...

POST 4Original post

Technically sounds great. Too bad the designers fouled up the rear tail lights. Ugh! C.

POST 5Original post

Can't wait to see when they'll fit the new engine to the Cayman, which might be the perfect next all-purpose car for me.

POST 6Original post

C'mon, Where is the fun in modern Porsche ownership if you don't fear engine explosion or RMS failure?

POST 7Original post

gt1 block killer? Wow, so this is really the start of a new era for Porsche.

POST 8Original post

I think 10 years to get it right is 10 years too long, personally, but I'm glad they are stepping up the specific output at last. I went through this exercise last year, of comparing 997 to 996 and just not feeling any real world improvement to acceleration. And I'm sure eventually I'll get over the ugly taillights! I would love to see the same improvements to output and fitting a PDK to cayman S down the line, I think that would be very fun too. BTW that simulator video is just awesome

I know it won't happen, but the new 3.8 and the other improvements in a Cayman would surely shut down Ferrari in GT2. Oh well...

POST 10Original post

Quotes source post: 5534469

I have to agree there....I was thinking the MKII 997 would be the easy choice for me in a few years...except they blew it on the tailights imo....they were so close.

POST 11Original post

The articulated engine test stand is very cool. And I love the new taillights.

I think you maded an Enzo. https://rennlist.com/forums/off-topic/438103-new-997-info.html https://rennlist.com/forums/997-forum/437770-997-mkii-engine-sound-fly-by-and-other-bits.html Probably news to some on this forum though.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source posts: 5535202, 5535202

So you re-posted it yourself (in the 997 forum) and you are going to gripe about it here? Exactly

POST 15Original post

Funny, the taillights look fine to me, but the rectangular exhausts are ugly...easier to change out than taillights, though!

POST 16Original post

nothing personal guys, but it sounds like typical Porsche marketing BS to me. I'll bet someone a good belgian beer that the GT-1 block will still be used in GT3/turbos and the "new and improved" M96 will be that: another improvement on a flawed original design.

POST 17Original post

Quotes source post: 5537169

I posted it in the Off Topic forum and I wasn't griping, just giving you heads up. Relax.

POST 18Original post

guys only time will tell....i would not be throwing my money out just yet.

POST 19Original post

Quotes source post: 5537269

+1... the gt3 engine has been soooooo reliable. Why change the ingredient.

POST 20Original post

i don't like the tailight... looks like a z3 tailight......to BMWish........engine sounds promising, the steering wheel looks great, but does that guy whoese driving the 911 looks really small.....?

POST 21 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 5538023

That should be obvious. $$ The M96 is a lot cheaper to produce. If Porsche can fix the weaknesses and make it as good or better than the old GT1 it's a win-win for the customer and for Porsche. Time will tell if there is substance to the claim, but it sounds promising.

POST 22Original post

Turbo + Direct Injection + More Boost (Chip) can be a very nice thing indeed, regardless of whether or not it's the GT1 or this new one, I can't wait to see what the Direct Injection does to the turbo and GT2, whenever that eventually happens

POST 23Original post

Quotes source post: 5534469

totally agree, Porsche messed up on this. First noticed this on the Cayenne. Guess Porsche is getting to be the all the other car companies. Changing things that don't need to be changed and add no value add all. PDK steering wheel sucks. Hopefully there will be an after market wheel to go to the true F1 style paddle shifters.

Simon: I'm with you; put this technology into a cayperson and watch out cayman clusport anyone ?? Jack

POST 25Original post

hmm... I really like the new tail lights... !
